32x doesn't need power supply? Huh?

Post by nova1313 »

So I previously had a genesis1, sega cd side model, and a 32x. When you ran all three you needed 3 power supplies one for each. When I got a new model 2 genesis I replaced the genesis 1. I am able to play 32x games without the power supply in the 32x. If I have it in the whole combination will not shut down until I pull the power from the 32x. Is this normal for a model 2? I was under the impression I needed all power adapters on all systems.

To go from the genesis to the 32x. I'm using a 9 to 9 pin minidin cable I bought off a site on the net. I found it recommended off here. It works great my video was flaky before.

I have the equipment to verify this claim.

I will test it out tonight.

you know that I've been having trouble with 2 32x's i got from eBay... i thought they all had issues cause when i had all 3 power blocks (model 2 genesis, 32x and sega cd), i could never get the damn thing to turn off without unplugging them.

I tried it with just the power on the model to genny and the sega cd... the 32x works fine.... and now i can turn the damned thing off!

I definitely forgot I was going to test this idea until that last person posted. Can anyone else verify this?

You definately need all three, if using the wrong power adaptor it will eventually fry your stuff, but it ends up doing this.

that really odd, cause i have two different model 2 gennys, and 2 32x's. When i hook either of the model 2 gennys with my sega cd and any 32x, with all the power cords, i cant turn of the machine without unplugging them.

I've been using them without power cords on the 32x and they work fine, i can power the unit on and off, and play every 32x game i own.

I understand about the wrong power cords, but i'm using the ones that came with my systems, all yellow tip ['cept for the sega cd which has a black tip] sega adapters.

I have a model 2 sega cd + gen 2 + 32x. With the proper adaptors in the proper consoles mine shuts on and off fine. If I remove the power from the 32x my 32x games will NOT work... the sega cd power light will come on for a few seconds then shut off and I'll just get a black screen(this is with a 32x game inserted).

You probably have one or more wrong adaptors an/or have them in the wrong system(s).

yay for someone else seeing what I'm seeing.

The rounded adapter is used for the 32x. Heres what I'm using:

black tip to sega cd. It came with this (same as genesis 1 power supply). Model mk-1602 9v DC 1.2Amp
Genesis 2 (bought used but this is what it came with) Yellow tip- mk2103.. Output 10v DC .85A
32X supply. More rounded. Yellow Tip MK2103 but looks diff then other one.. output 10v dc .85a.

I'm leaving just the genesis 2 and the sega cd plugged in and then the 32x works. Previously when I had genesis 1, sega cd 2, and 32x hooked up I had the rounded 32x supply in and 2 of of the black tip supplys the mk1602's.

Any idea's?

I've been meaning to get a 32x, but want to be clear on the cords I will need for one. I have the Sega Genesis I with Sega CD side attachment, (thought I don't have any Sega CD games ATM, so I use just the Genesis portion disconnected from the Sega CD).

If I buy a 32x, it seems I need a power cord, is there also an AV cord or something to go from the 32x to TV? As far as the power cord goes, someone posted a link to this: http://www.ztnetstore.com/product_info. ... cts_id/243 and people responded that this was the same power cord as used for the Game Gear, which I have a few of so thats shouldn't be a problem.
