BurningDoom wrote:Yes, the signature will make the comic rise in value. However, in today's market you need to have either a Certificate of Authenticity issued with the signature, or if that's not an option you need to go get the signature Authenticated yourself which cost money if you're looking to resell it.
Get a picture with you and the signer holding up the book after maybe. Would work the first time if you ever sold it in person. :)

Just remember comics, and anything collectible, is only worth what someone will pay for it.

As a comic book fan with a large collection here is my advise - you originally bought the comic for a reason and you apparently view it as having a lot of value. Will YOU value it more if it is signed?
If the answer is yes then get it signed.
If the answer is that your value of the comic is pure monetary, then you have to decide to take a chance or not.

My take on comic books is that if you are not willing to read them while in the bathroom they are worthless. I buy and collect comic books for entertainment, not to resell to pay for my kids college. I read and scan the hell out of my books and get as much entertainment value as I can out of them.

For those who collect to make money I present: MegaMan 3 sample + Story about Spdier-Man #1 = Random's "Played a Fool"

Oh, and for all who like comics tonight is Friday, go to my site to view and vote for Friday Night Fights where bloggers submit comic book battles every week.

Cool beans. Will visit.

Yeah, I don't sell my comics. They're worthless as it is, but its about reading and enjoying it. It's for the fun.

I guess I would want two copies, one can be signed and one that isn't

Both good points. The real trick of proving the signature is genuine.

I managed to get a Star Trek Laser Disc signed by both Walter Koenig and Leonard Nimoy. I did the same with a Devo music video Laser Disc getting some band members to sign. The proof? In the case of the music disc, only the concert ticket stubs. Not much evidence there, but I think the Star Trek Movie signatures will pass.

Star Trek IV was filmed on the USS Ranger CV61 not the USS Enterprise CVN65 as portrayed in the movie. The "Prize" was underway at the time. I was assigned to the Ranger at the time, have a photos along with a Call Sheet stating where the actors will be at on a given day. Maybe my photo showing Ranger CV-61 ship number and the ladder stating USS Enterprise more valuable? Walter Koenig even went out of his way to ask what I did before signing the autograph on my Star Trek III Laser disc.

So the value? Maybe there is a monetary increase, who cares. Just an interesting experience that being there and meeting the people.

Scott Snyder, the writer for American Vampire will be there, and I want to get my issue 1 signed, but if it will decrease the value, maybe I will just pick up a trade and get that signed- thoughts? Also is anyone else going? To this Con or any other this year? I will also be attending the Cleveland Classic Gaming Expo this summer :)

Get it signed. The age of comics being created that will one day fetch millions has long since been over.

Pretty much, nowadays. But at the same time, it's only a matter of time before traditional comics stop being printed. The combination of Trade Paperbacks become more common and accessible, and digital comics being a cheaper options is pushing individual issue sales way down. A lot of comic shop owners I talk to on the comic site I frequent have been talking about a shrinkage of revenue in the last couple of years on individual issues and as a result have been stocking more Graphic Novels and Trade Paperbacks than before.

When that happens, individual issues will skyrocket in price again on the collector's market because they will no longer be readily available. But that signature will only make that issue more valueable in the end, either way.

In all likelihood everyone alive right now and our children's children will be long dead before 99.9% of comics published after the 90's with an average print run have even a chance to compare in current value to non key Golden and Silver, and key Bronze age books.
