Broken Saturn disc?

Is a disc salvage-able after getting one of these cracks? My bro's copy of CoD has suffered a similar fate, though the doesn't extend pass the center (where security bar code thingy is). The game used to boot up, but no luck now.

I've got a few second hand audio CDs with small cracks in the center. Running some (liquid not gel) model glue around the inside of the center ring seems to have stopped them from getting worse. Although audio CDs aren't usually spun as fast as data discs unless you're ripping them. The further from the center, the more likely that the high speed spin and vibration would lengthen the crack. If it extends into the silver then it will start to rot and could spread to the point of shattering. Cracks starting at the outside edge are worse since there's not much buffer before it hits the reflective area and speed and vibration affect it the most.

I've had Tomb Raider for a while now but haven't really played it until now, it has a rather small (in my opinion) amount of scratching on it, just a rather large shallow scratch around the disc. My Saturn had no problem playing it until I got to level 8 and the game stopped loading. I even took the game to my local retro shop and they resurfaced it and it still doesn't load the level. Any suggestions?

What version of Saturn do you have? I have a Gen1 and Gen2 and the Gen1 seems to have a more sensitive laser or something. I have an extra copy of Tomb Raider if you are interested. You can PM me.

I have a Gen 2. Would a more sensitive laser help my situation or am I over analyzing this lol. I would love that copy of Tomb Raider, but since I move back to college next week, I'd never have time to play it... Thanks though. Maybe after this year is over and you still have it I'll see whats up.

I meant more sensitive in a bad way. I've had games that seemed to have maybe a light haze or some (what I would consider) very minimal scratching, that would work on the Gen2 and not on the Gen1. Then I would get them resurfaced and it would work on both.

Ah, I see what you mean. I get the same thing on my Xbox discs if I clean them they get hazy. What gets me is my Tomb Raider is flawless now and it still wont load. I was really enjoying it too...

Resurfacing discs doesn't always work very well, I've had a few SCD discs resurfaced to no avail, but I've also had DC discs resurfaced and now play perfectly. My advice would be to either get another copy, or mod the system and burn a copy, since you already own the game anyway.

Saturn must have some tough discs. I own a copy of Virtua Cop for Saturn with literally a chunk taken out of the side of the disc. Yet if plays perfectly fine. It's amazing. Whenever people look at my games I tell them about it.

Any game that's broken will play fine, as long as the damage is on an empty part of the disc, doesn't contain copy protection or region info, and doesn't affect the spinning of the disc in the drive to badly.
