Help! Problems with audio after installing Saturn Modchip

Post by soniklife »

So the other night my friend and i after some trial and error successfully installed a modchip into my sega saturn. we tested the console before installing the chip and played some games just to make sure the system was running smoothly. once we got the chip installed and we were able to play games we started to notice that the audio is horribly distorted on both burned games and actual games. to make sure it wasn't a problem with the av cable i checked it on my unmodded saturn (i own two saturns both of which are the same model) and the the actual games ran smoothly with no distortion in the audio. to describe what the audio sounds like it almost sounds if one of the channels isn't playing. for example i was playing a burned copy of x-men children of the atom, you hear the music rather thinly played yet there were no sound effects but all you heard was white noise. and in my actual copy of virtua fighter 2 the sound effects were barely audible. obviouslly something happened in the modding process that fudged the audio. before i go any further i was wondering if any of you fine folks have any ideas or sugestions.

thanks in advance!

Might want to take a step backwards and remove the Mod chip just to see if the problem stays. What guide did you follow? How well is your soldier points? Did the PCB get burned any when soldiering? Make sure no PCB pads got soldered together during the process.

Just some things to try.

Knowing the model you have and the instructions you used would be very helpful...

well truth be told my friend did most of the technical work! i am not much of a tech savy guy, outside of just enjoying video games a whole bunch. i'll test everything tonight and then post exactly what the technical specifications on the model are. i know for the most part we used the guide that is posted by racketboy in the sega modchip installation page but i do know that we did refer to one other page so, i'll gather the details this evening and post my findings. thanks for the help thus far everyone.
