Guess what system I've been playing a lot lately?
I haven't posted in a while because of being swamped with work, that, and I haven't given any game the review it deserves. I'm also sure I've forgotten a game or two as lately after I come home from work I go straight to the game room (aka the Men's Club) to relax. You'll also notice that Ill be beating a lot of the same games I did last year. Why? Because I love 'em, that's why.
I'll briefly write a few thoughts about the new games I added, as it is almost 9am and I have ironing/laundry to do before I go grocery shopping and I also want to have time to watch the playoff games tonight and go see BLACK SWAN tonight.
TMNT- Twenty minutes of pure fun and nostalgia for me. Although all the sprites, weapons aside, look the same and the turtles always sport a goofy smile, it still looks great. The music is great, and I just love the sound the enemies make when they explode. Weird that the ending is the same as TMNT II the arcade game for the nes.
Ack! I'll update this later, gotta run.

Metal Storm - DSiWare *new*
Kirby Super Star Ultra - NDS *new*
DoDonPachi - PS1 *new*
TOTAL: 3
First three for the year are done, and all were good in their own right. Metal Storm is a VERY easy DSiWare game on the default (easy) and VERY hard on the tougher difficulty level (insane). It really could benefit from a "Normal" difficulty setting, but it's a fun bullet hell game for a quick diversion.
Kirby Super Star Ultra is an updated version of the SNES game (which I'd never played), and is a real blast. Kirby is probably my third favorite platforming series behind Mario and Sonic, and this gem is as good as these games get.
DoDonPachi is one of a few games I have been trying to beat on a set number of credits ($1 worth) for a while, and I was lucky enough to have a good run recently. I'll likely never 1CC something like this, but the ride is a blast and it is easy to see why the game is so lauded. I actually plan to play a bunch of more expensive games this year (some I own, some I'll emulate), but we'll see how that goes.

Nice to see some appreciation for Metal Storm (Metal Torrent over here). The difficulty level gap is pretty crazy, but it's a fun game for a quick blast.

1. Karateka Atari 7800 - NEW
The only reason I beat this game was to review it for my new blog. It was a very bad game. If you want more detail on why it was bad, you can find my blog linked in my signature. (shameless plug)
EDIT:
2. Final Fantasy Mystic Quest SNES - NEW
I just beat this today, and despite all the criticism this game gets, I thoroughly enjoyed every second of playing. I really liked the simplicity and the brevity of the game. It was a fun little classic save the four crystals around the globe FF game that I could complete in less than fifteen hours and it never took itself too seriously.

sega
castle of illusion
disney's aladdin
i don't know if the proper name of this is disney's aladdin or just aladdin. whatever the correct name, it is a solid game. i have beaten it before so i was able to run through it like it was my job on my 3rd play through.
i think i will keep up with the disney theme for my next few games.

Rescue Rangers (NES)
Lion King (GEN/MD)
Castle of Illusion (master system)
Donald Duck in the Lucky Dime Caper (master system)
Quackshot starring Donald Duck (mega drive)
Those are all disney games I've played and loved, especially Quackshot and The Lion King. Sure theres plenty of other great ones like Ducktales and Magical Quest etc, but I havent played those, so I can;t recommend them.
Anyhow, if you can, try Quackshot, its great and its a little different to your bog standard platformer.

Chip N Dale is amazing on NES. Also Duck Tales 1 & 2 on NES/GB and Darkwing Duck.

Darkwing duck does look interesting. isn't it a mega man clone? one of my local stores has a copy. if they aren't charging an arm and leg for it i will have to check it out.noiseredux wrote:Darkwing Duck.

I second Quackshot, and also heartily recommend Mickey Mania. Great game.
