Gameboy Color speakers

Post by nick944 »

So after having my GBC for around 10 years, the speakers died and only make a slight crackling noise now. Is there anyway to repair them or get replacement parts for it?

GBC can be had for fairly cheap, might be easier to just replace it with a working unit.

Just rip a speaker out of any old small device, preferably broken. I just remembered that I actually have a replacement GBA speaker around here somewhere. I needed an excuse to get a GBA traded in for another one, so I just took the speaker out and went "Hey look, this one has no sound!"

^it just seems silly to replace the entire thing... the screen isn't all scratched up, the unit is overall in good cosmetic shape, it works, it's the same color as the one i had when i was a kid, i paid 7 bucks for it... with all that goin for it, i think i'm gonna take a whack at replacing the speaker, it should be fun and something to chalk up as experience... with all that in mind, do you think the wii remote speaker will be a good replacement, or do you think it's a shoddy one that i shouldn't use??

Might as well give it a go. Pretty much the worst that can happen is the speaker can't handle the amount of power being sent to it and blows out. If you hook it up and it sounds ok, great. If it doesn't work then try something else. Maybe even try the earpiece from a broken old pair of headphones if there's room.
