Why doesn't Nintendo redesign its consoles anymore?
Re: Why doesn't Nintendo redesign its consoles anymore?
Well nintendo sells consoles at a profit, where as the first run of playstations and xbox's are always at a loss to create marketshare. The redesigns are also cost reduction measures.

I for one, am glad that Nintendo no longer releases consoles with lots of wasted space inside due to rushing the engineering for an earlier release (that's why we get slim PS2, PS3, and 360). I'm even more glad they haven't gone ripping features out of the Wii like Sony has been doing to the PS3. Also, when Nintendo releases several versions of one of their portable consoles, people bitch and moan bitterly about it, so why would that reception suddenly be different for the home consoles?

Didn't nintendo remove some features from their handhelds with their re-designs?

Technology advances. A few years into a console's lifespan it's possible to shrink the console by using smaller parts, doing with one chip what you could with two, using less power so you can get away with less space for heatsinks and airflow, etc.Opa Opa wrote:I don't think they'll ever make another home console that could be redesigned into a smaller form. Why redesign a console when you can make it right the first time?
We are prepared to live in the plain and die in the plain!

I read a lot about the Wii when it first came out. They went through a LOT of trouble to get it that small in the first place. And honestly, how much smaller would you even want it to be? It's already smaller than almost every shrunk console. Any smaller and it would be more annoying then anything else.

Yes, but it's already established at the start of the thread that Nintendo (in the last decade, anyway) has been redesigning their portables, but not their home consoles. It's the home consoles we're discussing here.yomomma1 wrote:Didn't nintendo remove some features from their handhelds with their re-designs?
At least in Nintendo's case, the removed features have been for space, not strictly for cost-cutting. Sony started stripping stuff out of the PS3 long before there was a "slim" model.

I want a wii the size of a cd jewel case

I would assume, however that they would probably do the same thing if they did redesign their consoles. The Nes2 doesn't have an Led light and is rf only, and the lockout chip is gone.

So like I said, I'm glad they get it right the first time and don't do that crap anymore.yomomma1 wrote:I would assume, however that they would probably do the same thing if they did redesign their consoles. The Nes2 doesn't have an Led light and is rf only, and the lockout chip is gone.
