Woah woah what? Show me please.

It was the pikachu edition in the west but there were different colour variants released in Japan it wasn't much smaller but it was smaller. I saw an Orange one when I was in Japan around 2 years ago, I can't remember if it had a character on it or not though.

I own the blue pikachu edition, and its bigger than a normal N64, to accomodate the Giant Pikachu on the front. Its the same height and depth, but an inch or 3 wider.

Um, you do know that the pikachu edition is actually larger and not smaller than a standard N64 right?

For all of you complaining about the size of the oXbox, never get into home theater. You think the Xbox is a big piece of hardware. :roll:

Anyway, frankly, I think it's because the designs are already small, good looking, and functional. The original DS looks like shit to be honest, and I wasn't quite a fan of the original GBA. GameCube might be the best looking game console ever built, and the Wii is clean and small, definitely something you don't mind having on your shelf (as long as you don't set it on that crappy plastic stand they include).

The N64 really should have gotten a redesign, the thing was ugly! It looks like the SNES and 32x had a baby.
Older. Not wiser.

It is strange that both Sony and Microsoft has the slim down phases. Sony especially since the PSX, perhaps reviving of console sales. Maybe Nintendo didn't see a need to make a newer model of an existing system. A concentration of development towards the next generation Nintendo.

I have one of each, it's longer left to right but it's stubbier top to bottom also the 64dd lock on tower things (front left and right on the original system) are gone, I'd say it's smaller overall they're both in storage so I can't look side by side.

Even then though, bigger or smaller given that the consoles foot print has changed it's still a redesign no?

@ Ryantheslaya

I'm sure you've been told already but you sig quote is wrong. it should be;
"Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned for Sega" - as out of Brodie's mouth.

Oh ok, I'm in the wrong then. I've only seen one (I don't own it). Still I think most people barely count it as a redesign. The PS2 slim has gotten redesigned plenty of times the past couple of years.

I think this was the original design Image

and this is the current one ( http://www.inglue.com/wp-content/upload ... limbig.png)

Plenty of changes, but nothing too ground breaking.

I am referring to the N64 and Wii. N64 has special editions, but just a color change.
