Well I had just watched this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtGXbuHWdX4
And it had stirred up a thought in my head, would I have been better off being more focused in my collection?
I mean, don't get me wrong, just diving right into the collecting world was great, so many new discoveries of past games I would never have played, and so much gaming history to take in. But sometimes I wish I was more focused, like I had stuck to the console(s) I selected, (N64/GCN).
It's not to late to do this, maybe I just need to get organized and trim a little fat off my collection, so I can get more that I want to get, and actually play.
Thoughts, stories, similar experiences?
(Also, sorry for the absurd amount of "I"'s in this post, please don't tear me apart grammar nuts)
Do you wish you had a more focused collection?

I have been downsizing my collection like crazy lately. I have gotten it down from 300 titles to just over 150. I just tell myself one thing: I am a gamer, not a collector.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

I recently did the same thing and sold around 30 games that i did not play or had doubles of. my collection is rather modest at around 125 after I sold the spares.

I can't believe my GB mystery boxes are just collecting dust on my tradelist.
Re: Do you wish you had a more focused collection?
When i sell of games from my collection it's usually because i have not and am most definitely not going to play them. So why hold on them why not instead give them away or sell them so that someone else may have the chance to enjoy them.
Re: Do you wish you had a more focused collection?
yeah, same here. it sucks. i consider selling some of it and picking up more saturn games but i'm to the point where every game i own is a game that i want to have. so i dunno. maybe i just need to focus on what i buy a little more.noiseredux wrote:I go through this 2-4 times per year.

I don't "collect" games for any one system
I buy games for the systems I have so that I can play them and (hopefully) enjoy them
I don't see much point in collecting games I wouldn't want to play (sports-games, per example)
then again; I'm a gamer, not a collector

If I was into gameboy I would totally buy that shit up. Your mystery boxes are great.noiseredux wrote:I can't believe my GB mystery boxes are just collecting dust on my tradelist.
But yeah, I wish I had started focusing my collection early on. I started collecting roughly ten years ago, after I had my dreamcast worn in. I started with a Saturn in which I bought from the local Funcoland (now a gamestop).
I mainly focused on all things Sega, but even then I think I strayed too far. Right now I'm collecting Genesis, Sega CD, Saturn and Dreamcast stuff that interest me. I don't have to have ALL titles that I come across, just the ones that I've always been interested in. At the moment, I'm focusing on my 32x collection, having twenty 32x games including 2 32xcd games, and hope to get all US released titles.
I think focusing or narrowing down on a specific platform, game series, developer, etc. is a great way to add uniqueness to your collection and "trimming the fat" is good too, but can be hard to do.
Got: Atari 2600, Atari 7800Pro, Commodore 64, Odyssey 2, Sega Master System, NES, Genesis Models 1-3, Nomad, Game Gear, Sega CD Model 1, Sega 32x, SuperNES, GameBoys, GameBoy Pocket, GBC, Sega Saturn Model 2, GBA, Nintendo 64, Playstation, Sega Dreamcast, Playstation 2 Slim, Nintendo DS Lite, Xbox 360, Gamecube, PS3 Slim

I tried trimming the fat last week, and virtually no one has jumped on my BST thread
