Can you play Sega CD games on your Saturn?

I found an old forum thread on another site where on guy was adamant that yes you can while everyone else said no... he said he's been doing it for years. Is it possible he bought a modded Saturn without realizing?

I assume it is not native to the Saturn to be backwards compatible, but perhaps with a mod or Action Replay?

Anyway, just curious. I've got one Sega CD game that I figure I'll give a shot just to see, but if you have any ideas or knowledge on this, I'd be appreciative.

Yep, just as I thought, it didn't work. It did recognize the audio tracks and played as an audio CD. So I can't imagine it's too far out of the realm of possibility to give it the hardware it would need to play the game.

For anyone interested, the game I tested was Eternal Champions.

Yay, another thread that will show up in search results and give false hope. If it were possible there would be plenty of information on it by now.

Hell make a cd/genesis/32x/saturn/dreamcast system all in one! I've seen a Neptune mod that has cd genesis and 32x all together, surely you would be able to cook this up!

Do you happen to be an Angry Video Game Nerd fan? Don't listen to him. There's some great games on Sega CD:

-The Amazing Spider-Man vs. The Kingpin
-Android Assault
-Final Fight CD
-Earthworm Jim: Special Edition
-Lords of Thunder
-Lunar: The Silver Star
-Lunar: Eternal Blue
-Mortal Kombat
-ROBO-ALESTE!!!
-Sol-Feace
-Sonic CD
-The Terminator

No, I'm not an AVGN fan. I used to own a Sega CD. Beyond a few exclusives, I don't see any reason to own one. I think the only games I really enjoyed on it were:

Sonic CD
Thunderstrke
Sol-Feace
Silpheed

then there is Snatcher, but, its expensive, and definitely not everybody's cup of tea.

I did have guilty pleasure with the Jurassic Park game though. I fucking love dinosaurs, and, I love Jurassic Park.

I mean, there is a reason for certain people to get a Sega CD, especially if they're die hard Sega fans and want to collect. However, its not really a console with games you'll want to come back to over and over. At least in my experience.

I remember a gamestop employee telling me once that the dreamcast was backwards compatible with the saturn.

I miss the old lies they would tell you, so much nicer than the new ones.

A sega system that could run all of their cd games, i guess only in fantasy land.

I absolutely loved the Jurassic Park game myself... but man, could never finish it back in the day, lol.
