Saturn/Sega CD?

Post by GryeDor »

OK, with a cursory Google search, it seems the answer tends to be "NO", but every once and a while there's a guy who says it is indeed possible.

Can you play Sega CD games on your Saturn?

I found an old forum thread on another site where on guy was adamant that yes you can while everyone else said no... he said he's been doing it for years. Is it possible he bought a modded Saturn without realizing?

I assume it is not native to the Saturn to be backwards compatible, but perhaps with a mod or Action Replay?

Anyway, just curious. I've got one Sega CD game that I figure I'll give a shot just to see, but if you have any ideas or knowledge on this, I'd be appreciative.

If there's a saturn mod that allows it to play Sega CD games I'd like to know about it.

I'd guess it would only be possible if someone built a SCD emulator for the Saturn. But I have no idea.

There isn't even a SCD emulator for the dreamcast afaik so I doubt there's one on Saturn.

also remember, there was a forum I visited where this guy was adamant that if I clicked his link I'd see the best pr0n ever... it turned out it was a Rick Astley music video. :?

its really a shame. The Saturn should have been backward compatible with Sega CD games as well as Genesis/32x games.

and the DC should've been compatible with everything.

It might recognize it as an audio CD and play the music files. Just speculating here... Try it out and tell us what happens. :)

The only other possibility is if you put both hardware in one unit, and somehow made a switch to turn on either saturn or sega cd... but such hardware would be decently sized.

Hell make a cd/genesis/32x/saturn/dreamcast system all in one! I've seen a Neptune mod that has cd genesis and 32x all together, surely you would be able to cook this up!
Got: Atari 2600, Atari 7800Pro, Commodore 64, Odyssey 2, Sega Master System, NES, Genesis Models 1-3, Nomad, Game Gear, Sega CD Model 1, Sega 32x, SuperNES, GameBoys, GameBoy Pocket, GBC, Sega Saturn Model 2, GBA, Nintendo 64, Playstation, Sega Dreamcast, Playstation 2 Slim, Nintendo DS Lite, Xbox 360, Gamecube, PS3 Slim

I'm sorry but no living man could handle the awesome aura that exudes from such an ultimate combination of video game systems. By flicking the power switch, your being in its entirety would be flung clear to the other side of the universe. Play at your own risk.

Edit: And you're forgetting the Master System...

How big would that contraption be if someone did build it?
