I've read about this before. Apparently it IS pretty rare, but also really uncomfortable and not really good for long play sessions.
Gaming accomplishments:

Donkey Kong: 423,100 [L12-1] (150th place as of 2019-01-15)
Super Smash Bros. (N64): Ranked top 5 in Wisconsin from Q1 2016 to Q2 2017
Shrek SuperSlam: won largest tournament in game's history (Shrekfest 2018)

It does look super uncomfortable and impractical for gaming. On a positive note though, it looks like an awesome ab and upper body workout.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

Oddly enough I thought it was exercise equipment at first.

I thought it looked like exercise equipment too. Though, taking a closer look at it the concept is pretty cool. But unfortunately.....

So no matter how cool the concept is, I wouldn't want that ugly, uncomfortable looking thing anywhere near my house.
