Ok, calm down Breetai, I know you mean well, but it was a little confusing and you're badgering. :P

Ok, back to the problem at hand. Swapping the internal power supply will not help between the model 1 and the model 2 in your case. Looking back at your previous thread at the pictures you and I posted. Your power socket with the un-notched slot is high on the system. See how the arrow for 'AC In' lines up with the bottom of the socket?

Now look at my picture, the socket is lower. There's a smooth area up where your socket was and the 'AC In' is lined up with the middle of the socket. My model 1 and both model 2 look like this.

I think the inside is the same, but I'm not going to bother opening up mine to check because you'd have to hack on the case for it to work. Did you have a chance to look inside? Was anything fried or bulging on the power board?

This is basing on my hazy memory since I tried it long ago.

Model 1 power board has more "pins" than the usual Model 2 and has longer length, but my spare Sanyo Saturn(if my memory serves me right) also had the same number of pins. I swapped and it sortof fits (think the power board was slightly more in, so the power plug slot was not as accessible) but it didn't work fine. Powers up, but no activity from lens. I'm not sure if it's the model 1's problem from the start, since it was not working when I got it.

If you are handy with soldering and modding, you might get it to fit as I ever did see a model 1 power board in a model 2. Since your friend is giving the faulty model 2 to you free, I don't see harm in trying?

Looking outside of the box, I would take your friend's faulty Saturn and see if you can diagnose and fix that one.
You seem to have a good idea in regards to the inside of the Saturn. So if Hobie is right and the power supplies are not easily swappable maybe you can fix the other Saturn instead.
That's what I would try before trying to mod the case and innards for a power supply.

thanks for the help everybody!!

i didnt think they had the same internal power supply either, but thought id ask you guys here

sega saturns are like $80 here in toronto, and I'm a very stubborn guy who'd hate to scrap it and buy another without trying everything in power (with help obviously lol)

Well, apparently my friends sega saturn was modded etc., and he says now it boots up to the start screen and then the disc doesnt spin...hahah maybe it is a good idea to fix my friends instead?!

hahah you'll hear from me again soon

thank you everybody for the help and input, I love this site now!

Hobie: I took the whole thing apart, could not find ANY bulging capacitors on the power supply board or the motherboard...everything looks amazing, no strange looking corrosion either? just found it strange that it worked a million times better after I put alcohol on the connections, so I also though maybe if there was an electrical contact spray suitable, it would do the trick better than the alcohol

Yes, it is called Contact Cleaner. Electronic hobby places or ones with more PC parts than the average retail store will probably have some. Ebay or Amazon should have some too.

I'd look into your friend's modded one. Depending on what was done maybe it can be fixed or simply removed. But definitely don't junk them. If you can match with one that's the same gen with the same bits then one can be made whole if the issue can't be found and fixed.

First thing I'll take out the modchip. They usually have a inclination to fail and the saturn is fine. Sometimes the chip still works, just need to clean the ribbon cables (to the modchip) or check the solder.
