Sega CD trouble

Post by Evildeadmanwalking77 »

Hello everyone, I'm new here so this my first post/topic. I recently bought a copy of Sonic CD and it will play for about a minute or so and then it resets back to the Sega CD logo start up screen after a quick blank flash. The CD is scratched up a bit but so is Eternal Champions that I bought on ebay and it plays fine. What is the deal here? I have the Sega CD model that attaches to the side of the Genesis (Sega CD 2 I believe?). How can this be fixed if it's the game or the player? Thanks!

curved scratches that follow the circle of the disc are a lot worse than ones that are radial. Scratches on the top side are more likely to damage the silver reflective layer than ones on the bottom. If you can see pinholes from a top scratch you're boned if they're in the data area and they'll eventually cause rot. If you don't see light through the disk, then I'd say resurface it or contact wherever you got it from.

Yeah i agree find a game store or someone who can resurface the disc, the fact the other game works sort of does eliminate the fault although without getting too deep when a laser mech is on its way out or has a finger print/dust on the laser it can read some discs but not others or simply behave like Homer Simpson and do everything half-assed in general

Actually I think it may be both the system and the CDs. My Eternal Champions disc did the same thing too after playing awhile. I played a few other games and once froze and the other was giving me a scrambled screen, these games are not scratched either. I may bring it somewhere to be cleaned, along with the scratched games and hopefully it will work. Thanks guys!
I am addicted to video games, especially retro gaming from my era. I have: NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Gameboy, GBA, Wii, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Xbox, and Xbox 360. I have probably over 1,000 games in total for all these systems combined. Yes, I need help and I wouldn't have it any other way! This is my passion and hey my wife still loves me!!
