The Airship theme in Super Mario Bros 3 is actually Gustav Holst's "Mars, the Bringer of War". I had no idea.

It isn't Mars exactly, but it's clearly influenced by it. Mars is much cooler whereas Mario 3 derives a similar beat and initial theme and just repeats it endlessly. Nintendo wanted to use Bolero for the Zelda title music but it was still under copyright and they wrote their own theme instead, thank god.
That said, there is lots of badass classical music, particularly at the cusp, the late 1800s, early 1900s, of modern orchestral music.
Oh, and while Mars is 5/4, the airship music is 4/4. Try listening to Mars long enough and you'll feel off-balance. It's great.
