It is not really clear what you have here. By "gen 1", do you mean "Genesis" or "generation 1"?

The red/white cables are ALWAY right and left stereo audio. ALWAYS. I really don't know why you expected video out of them. Do you have much experience at all with electronics? I mean, the current generation consoles come with those connections (called composite (red/white/yellow(video))) as standard.

You need a mono DIN AV cable. It looks like this:

You should be able to find one at most electronic shops.

The red/white connections on the Sega CD are stereo audio outputs. On the model 1 Genesis, you run a male-male mini headphone jack cable (standard Walkman headphone plug) from the front audio output of the Genesis (make sure you turn the volume up) and connect it to the audio input on the back of the Sega CD. Then hook up stereo cable from the red/white outputs on the Sega CD to the corresponding connections on your stereo.

I think the model 2 Genesis uses different AV hook ups. A mini-DIN maybe? I've never owned a model 2.

Those red and white things are stereo audio out, not video. The Sega CD doesn't output video, the Genesis does. If you don't wanna use the RF anymore, you'll either have to buy composite (or S-Video) cables or convert your RF adapter into composite cables.

Here's a guide to convert the RF adapter into composite cables:

Or you could buy the cables from the Racketboy store...
