I have found Sexy Parodius for as little as the equivalent of 500yen and DoDonPachi for 1000yen, but that was with my actually living in Japan and actively looking for deals on retro games. The prices "Original_name" gave are correct. Those are normal prices plus shipping. They are both worth it and, in my opinion, both more fun that Radiant Silvergun.AppleQueso wrote:I'm not really a huge shmup fan, and haven't played very much, but I have played these two and loved both of them. Are they particularly expensive at all? I wouldn't mind getting them myself.Breetai wrote:Sexy Parodius and DoDonPachi are my two favourite Saturn shooters.

Definitely not.AppleQueso wrote:I think I'm beginning to see that Saturn collecting for the most part isn't cheap
...and it appears Breetai and I have slightly different opinions on Radiant Silvergun -- I think Radiant Silvergun is an absolutely insanely good game, and by far one of my favorite games on the system bar-none, and near the tippy-top of my list of all-time favorite shmups. Now, does that mean you should pay $150 for it? Eeeh... I didn't, but I plan on making it up to Treasure by buying it on XBLA when it comes out. It's a remarkable game, really, and everyone should at least get to try it.
Re: Saturn Wishlist
Alternatively, most of the best shoot 'em ups were arcade games. MAME is your answer. Lots were also released on the PS1, which is easy to emulate. If your computer can handle it, I can tell you first hand that Radiant Silvergun will run on an emulator (I also owned it, for the record).Original_Name wrote:Definitely not.AppleQueso wrote:I think I'm beginning to see that Saturn collecting for the most part isn't cheapI would honestly recommend modding your Saturn if you want to try out the shmups. A few of the great shmups have been released on modern consoles, so support them if you can, but really, there's no logical reason to pay the kinds of prices they go for online.
It is an insanely good game. I just prefer the styles of Gradius, R-Type and DonPachi more. RSG is more of a "thinking" shoot 'em up. I prefer just going through and blasting everything to pieces! It's just my style preference. RSG is a AAA shooter, to be sure! PM me if you want to know how much I paid for my copy. Then I get to brag and you get to hate my guts....and it appears Breetai and I have slightly different opinions on Radiant Silvergun -- I think Radiant Silvergun is an absolutely insanely good game, and by far one of my favorite games on the system bar-none, and near the tippy-top of my list of all-time favorite shmups. Re: Saturn Wishlist
Whoa, whoa, whoa. How is it we've come this far in this thread without anyone recommending Cyberbots yet? It's one of my favorite Capcom fighters, it's one of my favorite mech fighters, and it's just an all around awesome game. If you want a Capcom fighter that tends to be sadly overlooked, check it out.
If you're a big Samurai Shodown fan, III and IV were released on the Saturn, but both games have their share of detractors, especially III since it was apparently rushed for its release. I'd consider this purchase a bit iffy as I don't know your tastes, but if you're a big SNK fan, I'd say pick them up.
Reviewers had mixed opinions of Last Bronx, but I enjoyed this 3D weapons fighter. It did see a release in the US, Japan, and Europe I believe, so tracking down a copy shouldn't prove to be too difficult.
Oh, and I suppose it's obvious, but since nobody's said it, go buy Virtua Fighter 2. No self-respecting Saturn owner's collection is complete without at least one VF game, and 2 is the one to own.

Re: Saturn Wishlist
Y'know, I've never played Cyberbots... I really should give it a try. Capcom fighters on the Saturn have never done me wrong before, and I do love my giant robots...
Also, do you think Virtua Fighter 2 is the all-around superior game to Fighters Megamix? I'm not fighting game master, but while VF2 is obviously the more balanced fighter, I'd say that Fighters Megamix is the more compelling game, what with it allowing for true 3D control.

Re: Saturn Wishlist
Fighters Megamix definitely has the more interesting cast, but I don't consider it an entry in the Virtua Fighter series. It's like comparing Neo Geo Battle Coliseum to Samurai Shodown..there's characters from the series present, but that doesn't mean it's part of that series. I was thinking more of games like Virtua Fighter Remix or Virtua Fighter Kids.Original_Name wrote:Also, do you think Virtua Fighter 2 is the all-around superior game to Fighters Megamix?
