Re: Any Idea what 3DS Will cost?
I will be preordering, but not until I see a release date. I'd prefer to preorder at GameStop since they'll have some huge party, but if it's not released over my spring break, I'll be forced to do it at Kmart or Walmart because there's no GS in Platteville.

I'm really looking forward to this, but I won't be pre-ordering. I want to actually SEE the flippin' thing first before I put down $250+ for it

Welcome to the perks of pre-ordering an item.Michi wrote:I'm really looking forward to this, but I won't be pre-ordering. I want to actually SEE the flippin' thing first before I put down $250+ for it
I got to actually hold and see the DSi XL months before it came out here in the states because I pre-ordered it and anyone who did was invited to their DS testing party.
They did this for the Lite and the regular DSi as well.
Not to mention, pre-orders are completely refundable if you decide against picking up the system if you order through a reputable brick and mortar seller like Best Buy or GameStop.
That way you can see a friend or some other person's system in action and not get shafted by availability shortages if you still want it. Not to mention you can get all the money you've sunk into it back if you decide against it.
You're entitled to your opinion on whether you want to get it or not, but by now we should all know how to work the system on pre-ordering hardware and the like. Especially given the insanity and shortages surrounding every major next generation piece of hardware this past decade.
My Consoles:
Genesis - Nomad - SegaCD - GameGear - Sega Saturn - Dreamcast - NES - SNES - N64 - Gamecube - Wii - Playstation - PSone & LCD - PS2 - PS3 - Xbox - 3DS

It's not about wanting to get it or not (I DO I DOMod_Man_Extreme wrote:Welcome to the perks of pre-ordering an item.Michi wrote:I'm really looking forward to this, but I won't be pre-ordering. I want to actually SEE the flippin' thing first before I put down $250+ for it

It's just that I'm the type of person who likes to actually see what they're getting before they buy it. I just need to see it in my grubby little hands. I can judge for myself then wether or not I want it then. And if there is a shortage (Which I'm sure they're will be. I'm convinced it's a sales strategy) *shrugs* That's fine. I have enough game backlog to keep me busy for quite a while
Also, as for sales strategies via shortages and shortages Nintendo isn't gonna be stupid enough to pull that mistake again. Last time it cost them 85% of the market.
Look up the "great semiconductor shortage" they used as an excuse to short retailers on product to artificially raise demand from 1987-1998. They were taken to court in a class action and lost.
They also engaged in illegal price fixing on all of their cartridge based games to artificially keep prices high from the very beginning of their NES days until 2004. They were also taken to court and lost horribly that time as well.

Re: Any Idea what 3DS Will cost?
Just want to chime in with my similar feelings as Michi. I've gone back and forth on how I like the XL. I've owned every remodel of the DS at least once (heck, same goes for all N handhelds since GB...) and I am still not sure I like the bigger size of the XL more than the DSi. Games that require heavy shoulder button use just don't "work" for my hands as easily as with the standard DSi. And sometimes I like the 'lean back' easy-viewing of the XL's big screen, while other times I prefer the finer pitch of the DSi's.
All this is to say I know I won't be totally sold on the 3DS design until I've lived with it a little while... or at LEAST handled it at a retailer a couple of times.
For what it's worth, my town of 50,000 has one Gamestop and as of this evening at 7 PM no one had placed a deposit.
