Quake III Dreamcast question.

Post by Xelyx »

I recently picked up a copy of Quake III, but when I put it into my DC it just puts me into the main system screen. (Where you can view your VMU or choose to play music and check system settings.) I tried the game in another DC and it worked fine. This is also the only game that has given me any problems. Can anyone explain this to me? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Yeah, it didn't work for me either, I just returned it because it was too scratched.

What's the condition of the disc?

Try cleaning the lens in your Dreamcast.

If it isn't too much trouble for you, try and download the game and see if it'll play on a CD-R.

The disk was in great shape. (I've returned it already.) I'll definitely clean the lens up. I'll pick up another copy of the game first and see if it works, if not I'll try my luck at getting a burned copy going. Thanks a lot for the help.

Dreamcasts were kind of temperamental with certain disks. Back when I could still find DC games at EB I purchased a brand new Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, brought it home and the same thing happened as you mentioned. I brought it back and picked up a used copy that looked scratched to hell. It worked flawlessly and still works to this day.

DCs are quirky buggers but they're awesome.

got a copy of sonic adventure 2 that does this, but my burned copy burns fine. Pretty interesting to know why, because my copy is flawless

I'm glad I'm not the only one, at least.

Apparently many copies of Sonic Adventure had similar issues. I ended up with a copy that looked perfect. Worked in the particular DC of mine that I tried no problem. Sold it to someone on here and it refused to work at all. They tried resurfacing it and it didn't help. I believe it ended up going to someone else, but I'm not sure.
