i heard DS lites had hinge problems and actually were prone to cracking. I was wondering if i should be concerned over this for the DSI XL mario limited edition i just picked up.
it seems it has 3 points of locking unlike the lites 2 points. But theres something very strange. While the ds lite doesn't really make any noise when you open and close it, or lock it into place, the dsi xl makes a very loud *CLICK* noise whenever you put it into the 2nd lock position and a fainter one on the 3rd lock position. I asked a game stop employee about it and he said thats the sound to look out for on the lites.
So basically i need to know if anyone knows if this is normal? Its a very loud click and doesn't sound right. I dont want to have problems with this 6 months down the road, and though i dont want to wait in return lines around the holidays i will if this is a problem. I actually have to go swap out my ds lite too (first one had a messed up mic and 2nd one appears to have ghosting issues the first one didn't have. wtf i have some jacked up luck)

Yes, the XL clicks in to position. The screen wobbles a bit, too.

Re: DS xl hinge makes a clicking noise?
so its suposed to make a really loud clicking/poping noise on the 2nd lock position? This is loud. I opened it on the kitchen table and my cousin on the couch in the living room heard it
The lite definitely didn't do that. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a problem with the hinges being overtightened. Especially since thats the position i will be playing on most of the time

I also have the Mario 25th Anniversary DSi XL and I don't imagine mine is as loud as what you're implying. I didn't think anything of it when making the transition from DS Lite to XL, myself.
Now my question for you is about the touch screen. Does the whole screen of yours have that "squishy" feel? Because mine feels flatter/worn around the edges of the screen, and I think this may have been because I was being far too liberal with my attempts to remove all dust from the screen when attempting to apply my screen protector (which I didn't even manage to get on in the end so what a waste of time...). Also, it seems like the light is shining through each of the bottom corners of the screen. Don't suppose that's normal, is it?
Thanks! Hope that helped, by the way.

Not only DS lites, it happens more often with the origianl model. It won't crack if you never drop them but chances are you will.kenshin-dono wrote:i heard DS lites had hinge problems and actually were prone to cracking.

Re: DS xl hinge makes a clicking noise?
hmm no clicking noise for yours then ducky? This is a bit of a concern then. Maybe i should take it back. The only thing making me not want to is that the screen is great on it. I have to return my ds lite (bought about a month back) because the screen seems to have some ghosting problems and seems a bit fuzzy. im reluctant to take the XL back because the screen looks great. No real ghosting issue and the picture looks sharp and clear. Im worried the new one will either have the same loud snapping problem, or the screen will be worse
as for your question, no i dont notice any problems with the screen. It seems very responsive and crisp. Im not sure how you could have damaged it just by wiping it though, unless you put a lot of pressure on it and separated a protective layer or something. The only other problem i noticed was that the stylus seems really tight in the holder. Is that normal? THe lite slid right in and out, this one seems to almost snag.
Anyone else know if this sound is normal? I checked with a couple gamestops and they said it was normal, but i dont really trust gamestop employees =P (i didn't buy it from there btw)
