quick Dreamcast question

Post by Jbroderway »

I just burned my first Dreamcast game and the machine seems to run a little noisier than usual. Will playing burned discs cause problems down the line?

I used Discjuggler. The game was Soul Caliber. The burning speed was 8x.

Any advice on settings or whathaveyou would be great.

thats the price you pay for using a burned game!

All dreamcasts are noisy, thats just the way they are built.

Find another dreamcast, and use it specifically for burned games

I myself have three of them!

I have burned about 40 games already, there seems to be no difference on speed or programs used, that I know of.

find your favorite way of burning dreamcast games, you will go thru a few bad burns before you finally get it right.

have fun dude!

Update: I ran the disc again and it booted and played perfectly, with no overworking of the laser and perfect performance.

Thanks for the advice though.

This happens, different games, different burns, different systems.

I backed up my copy of Dead or Alive 2, it was pretty badly scratched, and on the first burn, my DC made so much noise it scared me, and the noise never stopped.

2nd Burn, and it doesn't really make much noise now at all. It's a very weird thing.

If a burn makes a lot of noise, just try burning it again, CD-Rs are cheap.

It depends on what versions of the games you burn. Tuxthewise optomizes his releases to load faster, and have no disc reader noise.

You must register to see the downloads index, but it is worth it trust me!

Beside the games in the list you can see notes about the releases. If it says "DCRes" or DCResurection you are gfood to download them.

Also, Captain Dreamcast makes optomized releases too of games Tux hasn't worked on, so give his releases a try too.

I get an error saying that you're not authorized to view this forum. Do you need a minimum post count or something?

EDIT: Looks like you need a single post. Once I made a post, I was able to view the protected forums.

Can barely get into the forum at all, is the download section hidden or are there new conditions to its access?

My post from the thread linked about:
If you're gonna play burns on your Dreamcast, try to only use this guy's releases...

http://snesorama.us/board/showpost.php? ... stcount=94

He pays strict attention to file order and whatnot. And when some sort of compression has to be made to fit the image on a CD, his releases are usually of better quality in that department as well.

If you have any burns for DC, you might wanna get rid of them and get Tux's versions instead. They'll definitely put less stress on the drive. In fact, I remember some one saying that his Tony Hawk release has better file order than the official game.
I know it was already said, but it's important enough to say again. This guy's releases are superior. Better file order means less wear and tear on the drive, and faster loading. Snesorama might have annoying popups, but you don't have to be a member to download. That's where I get all my DC games from.
