The WORD might be, but the abbreviation? I myself use JPN, I'm just saying. I don't see what the problem is. I've never seen or heard of a Japanese person taking offense to some one referring to video games being JAP region. In fact, I've definitely seen official things use "JAP" to signify the region. I really wish I can remember where I saw that, but it could have been something from Japan!

Don't know where you can a Mod Chip now, was common years ago. A less desirable alternative is a boot disc for all your original imports.
That's true! I didn't even think of imported originals. You don't need the chip if you're just region modding. Looks like you can use the mmonkey guide and then flash the bios.

J, JP, JPN, and JAP are all region designations that I've seen on commercial product codes and serial numbers, including on products from Japan, so I'm assuming it shouldn't really be offensive as long as it remains strictly within that context. I can see why the other three abbreviations would be preferable to avoid confusion with the ethnic slur (and "JAP" does seem to be a lot less common), but there's no need to jump on someone's case if they're obviously not using the slur.

Honestly I find it a little weird that Japanese companies sometimes use "JAP" as a region designator--not because of the slur, but because it's mostly only Westerners that somehow put a "J" in "Nippon". I would've thought codes like "NP" or "NHN" or something would come into use.

The picture for the Dreamcast mod chip just shows an IC. Do you have the code or did you buy the chips already programmed?

But referring to inanimate objects as being JAP, how is that gonna be hurtful to a person? Person A: "I have some JAP Saturn games." Person B: "You've insulted me!" See what I mean? I just can't understand how referring to video games and/or regions will insult a person! And I definitely can't understand why people who are not Japanese can take offense to it.

And install a simple easy 4 wire mod chip, too. Does anyone know where I could find a 4 wire mod chip?
I'm not understanding what you mean. You were gonna do the region mod AND install the mod chip?
It makes me wonder how people will react if a game/system/whatever ever has the it's initials N.I.G. :P
