Sorry I should have stated, yes I am looking for a name brand.

Nope Sorry. They came in a big white bag

Now I want a box of Dreamcast cookies
Luke wrote:You are looking for Spritz cookies, also known as German Butter cookies. They're called spritz cookies because the way they are squirted or squeezed out of a tube.

I don't know who sells them at a grocery store, but I do have an excellent recipe for them if you'd like.
I would love to see the recipe. If I can get the same taste, thats good enough. But Ive forgotten the name of these cookies and its driving mad.
CRTGAMER wrote:I still wish there is Egg Nog and yes Fruit Cake year around. :D

Description sounds like the Danish Butter cookies, though I can't think of a unique Christmas flavored variety. Never heard of Luke 's German Spritz cookies, seems to be the one.
I can get Egg Nog year round - Mayfield Dairys (a Georgia Dairy) has it year round at Krogers. My little brother loves the stuff. Ofcourse you can make your own fairly easily.

I know for a fact that they were not Royal Dansk, those are highbrow (but fantastic). The cookies Im looking for are for us poor people. Big white bag, poorly sprinkled, but taste like ambrosia. Well White Cheese dip is ambrosia, so the desert form of it...

These cookies were just a step above store brand. If you know Murray cookies think about that level - If you dont know Murray, they make these:

and these:

And I do appreciate yall letting me pick your minds about this. It is driving me nuts.

Yes! That's them. I was 99% sure they were called pinwheels. Forgot they had brown in them too. I used to live near chicago and we had them around all the time. Then of course walgreens is chicago based so it makes sense that they had them. I'll have to keep a look out.

Also spritz cookies are awesome. My mom makes them around christmas. I will get the recipe, but you'll need a spritz cookie maker thing.

Unfortunately that one doesn't come with the overweight scotty dog shape making it near useless.

Nein!

Although I usually use the cookie press, you can always put the dough into a gallon plastic bag, snip off a corner and squeeze out rings to resemble wreaths. I'll post the recipe tonight or over the weekend.

Hope you get what you're looking for billy!

Ive worked in professional kitchens that do it that way just because there is no clean up. I think I still own a set of tips for a pastry bag.

I hope these spritz cookies are what Im looking for. However the ability to make them at home will be very dangerous. Thanks Luke

To bump this back up after five years - the answer was Kroger Brand "Holiday Celebration" Cookies. According to the GM of my local Kroger, they swapped from a bag to a box in the late 90s.

I love you, homey.

Is it possible that this generic brand was 'shared' by other markets as well? Because I definitely remember the same exact cookies you describe from my own childhood, and yet we had no Krogers anywhere near us that I knew of.

It is likely that many of the storebrand cookies came from the same factories. Kinda like how Girl Scout cookies and Dollar General Premium cookies are.

This is the best necro bump ever. That is some dedication, five years of searching for a specific brand cookie.

Glad you found them though, they were clearly a dear memory. Enjoy!
