Neo Geo Game Choice.

Post by daito_kid »

So, every month, the JASSO scholarship I get in Japan gives me some money that I like spend on video games, and my girlfriend. I usually only get one Neo Geo game with the money every month, but now I'm in a pickle.

I'm considering Dunk Dream. The DataEast basketball game that is absolutely brilliant from what I heard, and Magician Lord, another solid game. Dunk Dream is running for about $50 while Magician Lord is about $30. Both include their boxes, and no manuals. I only have enough money for one. But I don't know what to choose.

I'm just wondering if Dunk Dream would be fun enough to entertain myself for a bit on its own, or if it's good with only two people. Any ideas?

I'm sure you could find an emulator to mess around with. Magician Lord is also on the SNK Arcade Classics disc for PSP, Wii and PS2. I know its super cheap and it comes with 16 games. So you could play it on that and see if you like it. Though emulation is probably your best bet. It's the closest thing to renting a game nowadays.

Magician Lord is pretty common and pretty cheap. I'd go for Dunk Dream since you should be able to pick up Magician Lord more easily any other time.

I prefer Dunk Dream... Magician Lord is cool, but gets hard fast and somewhat repetitive and like somebody said, you can always find it cheap.

Also Dunk Dream has some of the coolest (ie cheesiest) music ever... I love it.

I played both of them on the MAME and I really dig both games a lot. And, I think I'll go with Dunk Dream since it's the first time I've seen the Cart, and frankly, it's addicting as hell.

I have both for MVS. I >had< to get Magician b/c of my love of it in the past (along w/ Nam -nice av btw). I picked up Street Slam just for when my buddies come over to 2p it up. Plays like a poor mans NBA Jam. I agree w/ the others, basketball is harder to come by, so snag it. ML should be dime a dozen but I dunno about JP rarity.

I also picked up Bowling and a Sidekicks to tone down the fighters dominance in my MVS collection.
