I don't think the programming language matters. All of the consoles have C/C++ compilers and it has been that way for awhile. What really makes it easier to develop is the documentation, examples, and the interface libraries (graphics, controls, etc).noiseredux wrote: that's part of DC and GBA's popularity amongst developers. Re: Redspot Games announces new Dreamcast game "Sturmwind"
I don't know much about it myself, but prof. Jonathan Harbour who taught GBA programming said: It's a tradeoff that console manufacturers weight when designing a new video game machine. In the case of the Dreamcast and GBA, for instance, an easier programming model was deemed helpful in order to attract third-party developers. I was just going by having read that.gtmtnbiker wrote:I don't think the programming language matters. All of the consoles have C/C++ compilers and it has been that way for awhile. The one thing thats stoppin me from saving up for this one over other shmups... I need more screenshots!!!!
Re: Redspot Games announces new Dreamcast game "Sturmwind"
The game does look pretty damn sweet to be fair. It looks much better than that racing game they last released.
I may have to pick this up, but I too am waiting on more screenshots/video footage first.
And hey, I love the fact that people are still breeding new life into the Dreamcast, despite the fact the console commercially "died" about 9 years ago. I know some people don't "get" it, and of course they're entitled to their opinions, but I don't think there's anything wrong with people still loving their little white boxes and getting excited about new indie releases.
I'd much rather play this on the Dreamcast than as a Download only release on the 360 or PS3. I don't even own a 360 or PS3 and have no interest in either consoles.

Great news and yet some people are upset!
wtf! If I were a mod I would split this thread with the upset parts and the disagree-ers with the upset part. put this post in the other "upset about it" thread!
just kidding

It's always cool to see a new dreamcast game, but I wish someone would make a really bitchin' new fighting game. I always thought dreamcast and saturn were the "kings of fighters" so to speak.

Haha. This brought up a funny, albeit somewhat odd, mental scenario. I think you meant "breathing".Reprise wrote:I love the fact that people are still breeding new life into the Dreamcast...
I feel the same way. I love these shmups, and I'll never complain about their release, but a new 2d fighting game would be the shit. I've always liked the Dreamcast fighting games more than any other systems.mcromwell619 wrote:It's always cool to see a new dreamcast game, but I wish someone would make a really bitchin' new fighting game. Regardless, I'll be spending what little, little money I have on this new Dreamcast game!

Re: Redspot Games announces new Dreamcast game "Sturmwind"
Nobody is upset about it. I think this is great news for Dreamcast and shmup fans. I just don't agree with it being a Dreamcast exclusive that costs $46. Maybe if this were five years ago then I would understand, but today games like this cost $5 or less on XBLA, and redspotgames currently does have a game on XBLA - Solar Struggle. So I'm thinking this is just a way for them to try to cash in on that small thriving DC community that will essentially buy ANYTHING as long as it says Dreamcast on the spine. I mean, c'mon.. admit it, Dux was complete garbage. You know it and I know it. Nobody is gonna tell me that game was worth more than $5. But people bought into it simply because it was a new Dreamcast game and there was probably going to be only so many copies made (or so they were led to believe), so it became an instant collectible at that point.d123456 wrote:Great news and yet some people are upset!![]()

While I commend someone wanting to support the Dreamcast nearly ten years after its demise, I just feel that the emperor has no clothes. For $10, I can download Ikaruga in HD and play one of the greatest shooters ever made. But these guys want $46 for a cheap R-Type/Darius clone in 2011? Dreamcast or not... I think I'll pass, or just wait for the game files to show up on the net and then burn it.

That game wasn't worth the $.50 CD (and however much the ink cost) I burned it onto.Weekend_Warrior wrote:I mean, c'mon.. admit it, Dux was complete garbage. You know it and I know it. Nobody is gonna tell me that game was worth more than $5.
IIRC, RedSpot Games has copy protection on their games now. AFAIK, no one's cracked it yet (probably because no one cares).I think I'll pass, or just wait for the game files to show up on the net and then burn it. :twisted
