Gamecube game prices going up?

Post by corn619 »

I was at Gamestop today picking through the old PS2 & Gamecube games today and walked out with some really good deals. Picked up Odama new for $8.00 & Wavestorm for $3.00. There was more games I wanted but I wanted to check prices online before going back and buying them.

When I was checking ebay, I noticed pretty much all Gamecube games were selling well and for good money. Even crap games like Need For Speed HP 2Haunted Mansion, Scooby Doo & Batman games are selling for like $10.00!

I definitely plan on picking up Star Fox Assault & Smash Bros and a bunch more tomorrow. I'm sure they want to clear those old games off the shelves maybe I can work out a bulk deal or something. Its nice to see most of my Gamecube collection come close to tripling in value. And since I own about 60+ Gamecube games and bought them at rock bottom prices, thats great news. :D Just a heads up for anyone sitting on a Gamecube collection and not paying attention to prices.

I'd say they are going up again as the Cube generation is certainly passed but the Wii generation is also likely coming to a close in a year or so perhaps.

Then again, the "good games" have stayed expensive because of the Wii and just because they're good games (MKDD, SSBM, SMS, etc).
 (FC, AVFC, NES, SFC x2, SNES, N64, GC x2, Wii x2)*(G&W x7, GB, GBpocket, GBASP, DS-L x2)
(GEN, SS x3, DC x3)*(PCE-Duo)*(Xbox:500GB)*(NGCDZ, NGPC)*(PS1, PStwo, PS3:160GB, PSP.3K)

It was bound to happen sooner or later. I've told anyone that would listen to me that NOW is the time to collect for the cube. The hardware will probably stay cheap for awhile, but the good games are only going to get pricey.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

I'm always up for trying out of the ordinary things. Some of the best things in my life have happened from going off the beaten path. I know what the manager looks like. What I plan on doing is politely asking him if he would be willing to sell me a bulk purchase of old Gamecube & PS2 games at a reduced rate.

I plan on buying at least 15 to 20 of them, maybe more depending. I know they've been sitting on his shelve unsold for while. I'm assuming that Gamestop retail shelving is at a premium since most stores are small and old, unsold games are probably unwanted and need to be moved quickly. What have I got to lose? The worst he can say is no.

You know, I bet there's a way that a friendly manager could finagle the rules to get you that discount. Off the top of my head, I think GS employees have the discretion to give a "shopworn discount"...I've been given one before when I brought to the manager's attention that the blister-pack in which an accessory was packaged was crudely resealed with staples.

Just an FYI, if you look at the GS sticker, you can read the date that it was printed (and subsequently when it went in stock). You might be able to use the fact that some of the games could have been on the shelf for a while to your advantage. The date is usually hidden as a number like 120610 would be today's date, etc. Good luck!

Go to the Gamestop site to get the current used price and availability.

Actually most of the Gamecube games seems to be holding steady at the used prices at Gamestop. Few such as Pikimin 2 are still at forty bucks used though. PS2 has a huge selection used, perhaps the reason why the smaller selection of Gamecube games have not dropped in price overall.

As far as I know Gamestop doesn't do deals even if you buy in bulk. They already have the PowerEdge card (10% off pre-owned in store). Maybe a manager could pull something but I really doubt it... maybe it's the Gamestop stores around me but they seem somewhat strict.
