it's not a business model. It's a hobby, a labor of love.

Totally agree with you. It doesn't make sense to support a dead platform unless you don't value your time/money.[noiseredux" wrote:I understand. But it's still a broken business model. It's like someone saying "Hey guess what? We're going to make this really cool new movie but we're only going to release it on Laserdisc!" I mean, c'mon.. it's a cool idea and everything. But it's also equally dumbWeekend_Warrior wrote: it's not about money. Honestly, these sort of post-mortem releases are why the Dreamcast and the GBA have cult-followings. The systems stay alive long after they were deemed "dead" to mainstream gaming.

I find this view mind-blowing on a retro forum.Totally agree with you. It doesn't make sense to support a dead platform unless you don't value your time/money.
You guys honestly can't see the reward that would come from keeping your favorite console alive?
If I were to make a game, it would mean so much to me to see it produced as a GBA cartridge. It would mean shit to me to see it available as an XBOX arcade ROM.
Believe it or not, I think these people DO value their time. And to them seeing a new DC game come into existence that THEY created means MORE to them than the bit of $ they could earn through Microsoft.

Oh, ok, I understand. I thought it was a real company trying to make money for a living.noiseredux wrote:it's not a business model. It's a hobby, a labor of love.

I hate to break it to ya but the Dreamcast died almost a decade ago. There's been homebrew releases here and there (shooters mainly), but that's hardly enough to say that it's "alive" or been "re-born."noiseredux wrote:You guys honestly can't see the reward that would come from keeping your favorite console alive?
Halo 2600 might have been a good/interesting new title for the Atari 2600. But does that mean they're going to start selling 2600's at Best Buy or Target again? Nope.

Re: Redspot Games announces new Dreamcast game "Sturmwind"
Sometimes people just want to make a game. That's not an easy thing to do these days with monoliths like EA or Activision dominating the market. Beyond that, Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony are all pretty stingy about giving out licenses and development kits. Lastly, can you even imagine how hard it must be for a small group of people to develop a game for modern platform architecture from scratch?
People keeping the DC and GBA alive do so simply because they want to be able to say 'I made a video game' and those two platforms are fairly easy to get started on. Sturmwind's developers (like any number of current DC developers) aren't doing it to make money! They know that's absurd.
They are doing it because they want to.

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Plus Redspot is able to defray the costs of making these DC games by making WiiWare games as well.

Updated OP with these new pictures! Look at thoise colorful 3d graphics! Looks xbox live arcade quality!
Why don't you stop trolling man. They are obviously Dreamcast fans, and don't give a damn what you or anybody else thinks. They don't do it for money if that is what you are thinking.Weekend_Warrior wrote:This is obviously great news. But I still can't help but think that this release would have made a lot more sense as a XBLA/PSN download game. I mean, c'mon.. developing a new game for a console that's been dead almost ten years? It's nice to support the thriving "DC Scene" and all. But you're not going to see much money from that.
Besides, what do you know, you obviously aren't in the Dreamcast scene, and you could care less. FYI, the Dreamcast has gotten at least a new comercial game every year since it's discontinuation.
Dreamcast is only a last gen console and the graphics are great, PS2 still gets games, so what in the hell does it hurt you so deep down inside that you have to leave negative comments?
You trolls are fucking kidding me right? This is a REAL company! They are not interested in becoming millionairs if that is what you are thinking. Besides, if you guy's can't see why someone would love a system so ahead of it's time like this, what in the fuck are you even doing here on a retro console forum in the first place?gtmtnbiker wrote:Oh, ok, I understand. Sure, I enjoy some COD Black ops, BFBC2 or GT5, but damnit, I still love my Dreamcast more, and it goes to show the world that nobody is more of a fan if they show the kind of support like we do, and actualy purchase every new game for Dreamcast.
They said they will continue to create new games for the console as long as there are folks willing to buy the games. If we don't buy the games, we are just as responcible as Sony, EA, or Pirates for killing the DC. A new game for the Dreamcast is a fucking great thing, if you guys can't honestly understand, really why are you even here?
