Great read. I look at the C64 floppy based games. More stuff on the the larger floppy compared to carts of the day. Cheaper then carts to manufacture but a sacrifice, waiting for that game to load.

This part of that link rings true about the NES floppy fail:
there’s a compelling argument that the entire concept was flawed from the beginning. “As a general rule, gamers don't like to have to purchase additional add-ons for their game consoles,” says Dillard. “When you start splitting your core audience like that, you're in for trouble.”
I wonder how the Kinect and Move will hold in the long term, as that add-on concern. Of course the market now is huge compared to the NES era.

C64 was actually my first "console" as a kid. I never owned a single disk though, just cartridges.
