yeesh, after years and years of not really giving a crap about nintendo (havent owned one of their systems since the terrible N64) it looks like I may be getting 2 Nintendo systems this year, lol. Im getting a DS around xmas (tnx for the sugestions in that thread by the way im compiling a list of games from the sugestions)
And Now im sorta eyeballing the Wii. It don't really have many games I want, and im not impressed with the tech. I think no more heroes and maybe that samurai game made by the guys behind okami are just about the only games i really care about. The thing is my niece saw a babby mamma game that she really wanted. I also noticed that through wednesday target has 25 bucks off so i can get one pretty cheap
I was just wondering if therse a real difference between the systems. I.e. The red one with mario and the black one with the 2 sports games. I know they upgraded their motion controls at some point, and was just curious if both had the same controls. I'd honestly like the black one just for aesthetics, because it would go much better in my room, but it just comes with some stupid sports game while the red one comes with a sports game and mario. (though honestly i dunno if im stoked about mario. I have all the old ones on the NES)
So am i safe with either one as far as having the latest tech? Im not even sure if i'll be getting one but I was just curious about that in case i do throw down the 175 bones for one in the next couple of days. Its too bad there isn't a bundle out there with a decent game

Re: Wii console question
The new Super Mario Brothers Wii game is fun. Its different that the previous incarnations, but the fact that it plays like the 2d games of old is a plus.
The white and black Wii are not too different from what I gathered other than the Motion Plus add-on. The new Red Wii has a new and updated Wiimote with Motion Plus built into the controller instead of a bulky add-on.
So, I guess I would get the new red version for the extra game and tech.

If the black one has the Wii-motion add-on, then it's up to date. It's just a bit bulkier. Honestly, other than a few games, the extra motion thing isn't a huge deal thus far.
Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 are both incredible of you like platformers at all. Definitely get them. The Paper Mario on Wii is pretty good. Zelda is good. New SMB Wii is awesome (just like NSMB on DS is). Mario Kart Wii is amazing. Smash Brothers X (or whatever it's called outside of Japan) is great. The new Sin & Punishment game is good. The new NiGHTS game was fun for me. Apparently Sonic Colours is actually great! People seem to be saying it's what Sonic Adventure on the DC should have been.
Lots of games that are kid-safe here, but they are all totally fun. Plus you can get those few Gamecube games that you missed out on, like Wave Race, F-Zero, Mario Sunshine, etc.

Ah, the Wii...the console I bashed on that became my favorite out of the 3. What genres do you like to play?
Edit: http://wii.ign.com/articles/104/1048874p1.html this list gives an overall games to play but is missing some hidden gems (where's Excitebots?)

Re: Wii console question
Hmm a bit confused about the wii motion plus thing. Im looking at the black bundle that comes with the wii sports resort and wii sports.. does that have the wii motion plus? Id like to get it built in and not some tacked on thing
I was also wondering if it comes with component or composite cables outa the box. I think it only does 480p rez right?
Oh, and i forgot to ask. Do i need battery packs or a recharge kit for the controllers?
as far as what games i like. RPGs/SRPG's have grown to be my fave but i also like most genres other than sports games, racing games, or RTS games. I've also found myslef liking FPS's less a lot lately. What games i may want to get comes later though, im not even sure if im picking one up. Like i said it would proably mostly be for my niece to ease her into games since the wii has a bunch of gimicky kids games on it. Though im sure there are a few i would like as well

What does the box say? As for whether you get it built in or as an attachment, it's just aesthetics. I don't even own any Wii-motion Plus controllers and I'm not really bothered with it. I guess if I feel like getting Wii Sports Resort I'll pick up a couple (only got 2 Wii-motes, so 2 more isn't a bad thing). Wii Sports Resort IS fun, though. I just have way too many other games I haven't played, and Mario Kart Wii is where I do most multiplayer sessions on the Wii (get it, even if you don't like racing games!!!).Hmm a bit confused about the wii motion plus thing. Just composite, AFAIK. Unless they've since upgraded what it comes with?I was also wondering if it comes with component or composite cables outa the box. I think it only does 480p rez right?
Yeah, 480p. No HD out of the Wii. Mario is fun either way!
They take two AA batteries. I buy the rechargeable type and plug them into my wall socket recharger.Oh, and i forgot to ask. Do i need battery packs or a recharge kit for the controllers?
Just get the ones I mentioned above. There are a few really fun puzzle games also, especially as downloadable Wii-Ware. The new version of Dr. Mario is just awesome, like the Miz. Block Breaker, an Arkanoid clone, is really fun and uses the Wii-mote function nicely. There are a couple versions of Puyo-Puyo (Puyo-Pop, I think it's called in America?) that are amazingly fun. Paper Mario is a cute RPG that I mentioned above. There is also a sequel to Final Fantasy IV (or II on the SNES) that is downloadable. There are more, but to be honest I do my RPGing on the PS3 (for Oblivion and Fallout 3) or on retro consoles and PC.as far as what games i like. But anyway, not sure right now is the best time to buy a ds with the 3DS coming out soon which will play DS games, and even if you don't want a 3DS the DS will probably see a price drop when the 3DS hits.
Re: Wii console question
Same. The 360 was good for a while but it's become so saturated with cliche shooters I've lost interest. I get on ign xbox and don't know or care about any of the games they're getting all psyched about. But after a couple years of wii music type crap, Nintendo has gone full on retro with their new wii releases. Sin and Punishment, DKC returns. . . I don't need to bother listing them all.swiftzx wrote:Ah, the Wii...the console I bashed on that became my favorite out of the 3. What genres do you like to play?
