HD Remakes
HD Remakes
With the growing trend of developers releasing some of their back catalogue as HD revisions, such as God of War, and the recently announced Shadow of the Colossus/Ico HD remake. Is this a good thing? And if so what other games would you like to see brought out with a HD face lift?
People who think they know every thing are a great annoyance to those of us who do.
Re: HD Remakes
Just referring to sony exclusives, I would buy ratchet and clank, jak and daxter, and the onimusha series again if they came out on single discs in hd. I totally think it's a good thing. Sony can resell some of their most awesome games in a single package that looks and runs smoother. Even as someone who already owns them, the ones they've done so far are great enough that I would buy them again. And especially stuff like Ico which was a great game but has become difficult to find, is now accessible again in a better form.
Re: HD Remakes
It'd probably be cool to see Mario 64 with mario galaxy graphics or something. Maybe.
I guess it depends on if it's just been converted to HD, or been completely revamped. Sticking original xbox games into a 360 converts them to 720p so no need for remakes.
Taking 2D games to HD makes a more dramatic difference, but it also completely changes their style. Pixel art doesn't really exist in HD.

Re: HD Remakes
I think most of the original 3D era (N64, PS1, Sega Saturn) is a ripe picking spot for HD remakes (and going a bit into PS2 obviously). This is when 3D games were in their infancy or sometimes hardware was the limit on what could be done. Having more powerful consoles allow developers to clean up and enhance their products to match the original vision.

Re: HD Remakes
The Sly Cooper HD Collection just came out and The Prince of Persia HD Collection is being released on the PS Network. I beleive the first one is already available. There's also a Mortal Kombat HD Kollection coming out.
I think this is fantastic. I never owned a PS2 so I missed all of the classics that I will now be able to play on my PS3 at a higher resolution in HD. I hope Xbox 360 gets some HD Collections. I heard a Dreamcast collection is coming out but it would probably just feature a smoothing filter.
Some other games I'd like to see:
GTA 3/Vice City/San Andreas
Metal Gear Solid Trilogy
Splinter Cell Trilogy
Jak & Daxter Trilogy
Rachet & Clank Trilogy
Spyro Trilogy
Donkey Kong Country Trilogy
Turok Trilogy
Goldeneye (A true remake on PS3/360 please)

Re: HD Remakes
I'm torn. For one, I don't like the original games being messed around with unless it is to fix blatant flaws or glitches. The original visuals are part of the package, you know?
But on the other hand, I do like re-releases as it makes the game accessible to more people.

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
Re: HD Remakes
It's been said before, but it might as well be said again - Final Fantasy VII should be remade. It's not even my favorite Final Fantasy, but Final Fantasy VI still looks great. Final Fantasy VII has graphics that are about as impressive as a Dire Straits music video.
When the "walking-around" graphics (a.k.a. LEGO Final Fantasy), the cinematic graphics and the battle graphics all have wildly different styles... yeah. Consistency goes right out the window. Nothing hurt more than going from those more-than-serviceable battle models back to the stone-age graphics of the main game.

Some Compilation suggestions that I haven't seen mentioned:
Devil May Cry series (would make a great promotion for the DMC-Reboot)
Legacy of Kain series (DO IT!)
Syphon Filter series
Crash Bandicoot 1 - Warped (Obvious reasons)
Rayman series
Legend of Dragoon (I didn't like this game, but it'd make for a good cash-in)

Re: HD Remakes
The one that would probably sell the highest is Final Fantasy VII. Heck, I might by it.
Final Fantasy IV and VI would be interesting, but I don't know if they'd retain their original charm unless it was done in Phantasy Star Sega Ages style (PS2 remakes of PS and PSII).
Sonic 1-3&K would be awesome in HD... IF they play the exact same as the originals.
Maybe Master Blaster would be cool?
