After loving Super Ghost 'n Goblin's since the 90s and Ultimate Ghost 'n Goblin's when it was released a few years back I decided to pick up the original. I bought it pretty cheap on ebay and wow, holy shit this game is the most brutal of them all. After fighting my way through legions of the undead, and leaving my fingers bloodied stumps I finally beat the game or so I thought.
Then much to my surprise, I've been trapped by Satan I have to start all over and its even harder! For some reason this just crushed my spirit. Great game though, I don't know why I never gave it more time. I'm determined to beat the second playthough now. Is there anyway to buy the arcade version? Was it on a compilation disc recently?
Just beat Ghost 'n Goblin's for NES! ....uh wait, maybe not.

the 2nd time is supposed to harder because the enemies move faster, but i really didn't noticed a difference. in fact, i think i beat the 2nd play through much much faster then the first one.
FYI: the world record for the game is 21 or 22 minutes. that is beating both rounds without deaths.

Yeah I think this is going to be my new game to master every aspect of. Much like Ninja Gaiden 1, 3 & Zelda II before it. I just love playing and mastering these ruthless 2D action games lately, its really rewarding & exciting when you go where few have survived before I guess. I also just won Solstice on ebay for $5.00 which I remember giving me a major ass kicking as a kid. We'll see if its as hard as I remember. I see Gargoyle's Quest in my future as well.
Thanks for the info FF CD, I'll look into it.

I tried to beat GNG on nes, but i'm having trouble beating the flying skeleton dragons who don't in 1 hit, its brutal located towards the end of game. I have fully beaten ghouls n ghost arcade, very good game. GnG on super nintendo beat it once but its hard for me to go back.
I just heard about ghouls n ghost online game for Korea, I hope it comes out here, looks fun.
I do have psp game, but need psp
I couldn't believe the original ghosts n goblins had cheat code for level select. barely found out

There's a couple NES games like that. You finish the game but really you have to beat it AGAIN to truly complete it. Super Mario Bros. is probably the most famous example.
One of the hardest is probably Air Fortress. One of my all time favourite games. After beating the 8th level, you have to beat all 8 again. BUT, instead of harder enemies, all the mazes of the Air Fortresses are different. So all the time spent playing and beating the first half doesn't really help like it would say G'n'G or SMB.
Can anyone think of other examples of games that make you go back and beat the whole game AGAIN to truly finish it?

I was in the same spot 20 or so years ago when I rented GnG one weekend and spent an entire Saturday afternoon getting to what I thought was the end.... and it was when shortly after my mom literally pulled the plug after finding out i'd been playing over 5 hours straight.

You have to beat Legend of zelda twice, 2nd quest. Resident evil 2 make you play both discs twice. Can anyone think of other examples of games that make you go back and beat the whole game AGAIN to truly finish it?

I finally beat this last week. I was aware of the second quest though so that didnt bother me to much. The really annoying things was that I tried to fight the last boss with the dagger so it sent me back to level 4. That was frusterating.
The second quest is a bit harder than the first, but if you can beat the first quest it shouldnt be to troublesome. There are a few extra baddies in each level and less item drops, but otherwise it is almost identical. Like another poster said above you should be able to beat it in less time than it took you to complete the game originally.
