I actually got a factory-sealed copy from Roses about a year ago for $5. No joke.Jrecee wrote:Holy crap never even heard of that one. Is it rediculously expensive?alienjesus wrote:Thought of another one of note: Astal for Sega Saturn is supposedly pretty good, although I haven't played it myself.
Edit: and how about Wild 9 for Playstation?

Tomba! and Klonoa are both kickass games for the PS1. Also Astal for the Saturn was quite nice!

I can add a few to the list
Saturn:
Keio Flying Squadron 2 - wacky boss fights, good play control, and moderate-high difficulty

Silhouette Mirage - unique gameplay, bright graphics

PS1: Umihara Kawase Shun - rubbery spiderman action

PS2: Alien Hominid - also available in HD

PC:
Abuse - 360 shooting with mouse, incredible audio and graphics.

RosenKreuzStilette - hard, megaman-like gameplay

Bunny Must Die - very difficult castleroid/metroidvania

Gish - unique physics and lots of secrets

Wik & the Fable of Souls - incredible graphics and jungle swinging with your tongue

64 Bit (worth a mention anyway...)
Wii: Cave Story
Looking forward to playing La Mulana and Noitu Love 2
More a brawler, but I just found out about Panzer Bandit for PS1 - it's awesome!

Great post, Anapan. I know some of the indie / freeware gems you mentioned and I hope some more people will get to play Abuse (now free) and Gish (very cheap, great indie game).

How about Jazz Jackrabbit 2? I just mentioned this game in a post on the PC forum, but I feel it applies here too. I think it was pretty popular back at the time, but it's probably mostly unknown I'd guess. I'm not sure if it's 32-bit exactly, but it's in the spirit of the other games mentioned here. It's for PC so you can just dl it if it catches your interest.

I was thinking Skullmonkeys when I saw this topic. I was surprised to see it covered in the original post though, that game is something else.

I mentioned jazz jackrabbit 2. I wonder if I can install it on Windows 7?
Re: 32-bit 2D platformers worth a punt?
A game that hasn’t been mentioned yet is Adventures of little Ralph for the PS1. Sadly this Japan-only release is very expensive, but it is one of the best 32 bit platformers I ever played. If you don’t care about the money or want to add a nice gem to your collection it is worth to check out the game.

OMG, I LOVE Shinobi Legions. The gameplay is totally Shinobi. And the cutscenes are so freaking awesome. Actually played out by live actors. They just totally reminded me of the 80s martial-arts movies I grew up watching.Pulsar_t wrote:I had several of those Disney platformers but I'm unlikely to ever try getting them again.
I overlooked mentioning Shinobi X/Legions. As much as I love the 16-bitters this sequel just didn't do it for me. Iffy collision detection, I just wish they'd never gone with those digitised sprites.
