Question about NiGHTS

Does the Saturn NiGHTS require me to be able to read the language? I have a JP saturn and was thinking of getting this, but I don't want to find myself being unable to play it.

You'll have to figure out which options let you save the game, and you might need a reference if you want to tweak the settings menu if they're not in English. Otherwise there's very little text in the game at all. There was also a U.S. release of the game that you could run on a JP Saturn if you've got a Pro Action Replay.

With a little trial and error you can navigate the game just fine without any Japanese reading ability. The game "story" is all done without voice overs or text. You'll just need to figure out what does what. A quick trip to youtube or a google search will probably bring up a visual faq or something.

In the end, you'll save a few bucks and some shelf space getting the Japanese version anyway. The games are nearly identical minus the very limited Japanese in the Japanese version.

I usually stick to fighting games and shmups, not sure about platformers. Cept for SA2, which i got from lik-sang with the anniversary stuff for 10 bux, now goes for 50, go figure.

Now to shop for NiGHTS... w00t.

Is the 3d controller optional or required?

Optional, but the game doesn't play nearly as well without it.

Yea you should really get the 3D controller. Every time I have ever played Nights with the standard controller, my hands end up being really sore.

I've got the JPN version of Christmas Nights and as I remember all the text is english, although not the phrases are the same as in EUR version which is odd
