Clone PS2 memory card

Post by executioner »

Just wondering if anybody out there has used those cheap clone sony ps2 memory cards from hong kong and how have they worked for you. I remember using non sony memory cards with 360 blocks on PS1 and they were fine for the first years, then later on the pages for each block group got erased and made me real mad for loosing my saves. Currently I have only 1 memory card and use ARmax Evo to transfer my saves from/to a usb memory then to the PC to free up space and have my saves stored for prosperity or whatever.

Don't really need another one because I only play one game at a time but sometimes I wonder if those $10 for a clone is worth it and don't wanna pay sony more money for such small card they sell. Please if you are going to recommend one post a link, review or you're experience for using one for a long time.

I can't speak to the ultra cheap HK copies, but I have a Mad Catz and two Nyko brand PS2 cards and they've always worked well. I also have an Action Replay with a file crusher tool which works well but I rarely use it since it's somewhat of a hassle to compress, restore and reuse crushed memory saves. I've never lost a file doing so though.

For PS1 I have numerous old Sony cards that have never lost their saves for what must be about 10 years now. I also have a pair of Performance 12X memory cards which have always worked well. Once I filled one up too far and it locked me out of everything but once I deleted a file or two I regained access to everything else.

I'm not sure I'd trust a clone, but a Sony or authorized product seems entirely trustworthy in my experience.

i purchased a action replay that came with what was supposed to be a 16meg memory card.

believe it or not, its freaking 32meg, although it says on the box, and the memory card that it is a 16meg memory card.

i guess im lucky, im not going to complain, i have alot of game saves on it.

I dislike 3rd party. I had one that ended up with corrupt data on it and I lost all my saves. It was a MadCatz I believe. It worked fine for a while, then one day it just stopped working.

I have a 64MB third party card (well, it says magic gate written on it but isn't Sony branded) which I bought on Enay which works fine for almost every game, except a couple which don't recognize it, such as Kingdom Hearts II and Burnout 3, so I have to keep a spare standard 8MB one for those rare games that don't like it.
