New Netflix streaming on PSN

From what I'm hearing, you don't need to use the disk to stream netflix.. I also heard that it's greatly improved.... Some even say it's better than Xbox.. Just curious has anyone tried the new update? I know it's about a week and a half in but I'm just wondering if anyone could give me an idea what the quality is like? I guess I may try this out in the very near future..

I've just signed up. All you do is install a 19mb file and then sign up with credit card. It's pretty sweet. It's free for a month right now and then it's 8.99 ( i think) a month if you contnue it. It looks like they have a pretty good selection too and I watched a few episodes of Iron Man with a friend and part of a movie with no problems. It was super smooth and never stopped to load during the movie. I'll probably be using the service after the month runs out. It's as simple as it gets.

I can't compare it to the Xbox version, but the app is pretty nice. I like that you dont need to put in the disc anymore The only thing I'm curious is why didnt they just do this from the get go?

I have used Netflix streaming on all consoles and the PS3 is the best in my opinion. It is very quick, easy to navigate menu, good search function, and with new improvements such as 1080p and 5.1 surround sound as well. The selection is also getting better as well with more new titles being consistently added. It is totally worth it saves me a ton of money on movies. I usually only watch the majority of my movies once or twice unless it is amazing so this helps not only save shelf space but more importantly my wallet.

The only thing I'm curious is why didnt they just do this from the get go?

I believe Microsoft had an exclusive deal for Netflix streaming at the beginning.

I hope we get this in Australia. The xbox version hasn't come so I don't hold out a lot of hope for us getting the ps3 version. For the xbox we got zune marketplace instead.

Netflix doesn't run on my JDM PS3 (USDM only), dammit. The disc will only work for another 3 weeks. So if I wanna stream netflix in my room i have to use my laptop (hook it up to the TV via HDMI). I have a USDM PS3 in the living room, so I guess that is cool...but I watch most movies in my room before bed. Woe is me!

I'll have to try it out. My PC has been hooked up to my TV for a while now, so I always watch NetFlix that way. So much easier than having to turn my PS3 on and put the disc in and wait for it to all load up.

But I'll have to check out this new disc-less version and see what's up with it.

edit: I just checked it out. It's still a much slower process than streaming NetFlix from my PC, but at least now I don't have to use the disc.

There was a mention a while ago about the Wii also supporting NetFlix. I now have a dilemma. Daughter is bugging me to get NetFlix stream for her Wii. If I do, pretty sure my Son will want the same for his PS3 and then oh hell, maybe even the front room for Mom and Dad. I guess that would be three accounts or can I just make one account to go to three different destinations, one at a time? "No, my turn to watch." A virtual battle of the remote? Then the issue of locking out some not all "Parent Decide" NC-17 movies on just the son's PS3.

With a cable modem/ethernet hookups in an older non-fiber optic neighborhood, I also wonder if the movie might pause at times like a Youtube video? This could get expensive. Maybe I'll just stick with rentals and the free county library checkout.

A plug for your county library, a very good deal depending on what your location offers. I go online, reserve my cue and when the movie is available I get an E-Mail. The FREE Movies are delivered to my local branch from over 30 other libraries in the county.

I already have Digital Cable TV with a hundred crappy channels.
Maybe the streaming will give me a better instant selection.

You can link as many devices to your netflix account as you want. But you can only watch one thing at a time (supposedly).

Don't know if parental settings are set by device or by your main account. Maybe you can just have a main account password for watching R movies?

Keep in mind the $9 a month also gets you movies by mail. There's no way in hell the local rental store can compete.

My only complaint about netflix for the wii/bluray player is that you can't search. So if it's not a recent release in one of the main categories, you have to go to your netflix account on your PC and send it to the instant queue.
