I still think it's a bad thing.
not going to disagree with you there, but you do know almost all consoles ever made have region lock. The Wii has it, Don't know about the 360 (too lazy to google it)
Correct, but there is a difference between having region locking for the entire lifespan of a console, and implementing it during the lifecycle of a console, after people have already bought it. Bait and switch.
I bought a Japanese launch PS3 knowing that it would play all regions of games. If I wanted to buy an American game in the future, it may not work on my Japanese console. That's bullshit.
Sony already took away my PSN access. They removed Linux support for updated systems, and removed PS2 BC on newer consoles. Sony just keeps removing stuff left and right. It's really getting out of hand.
I hate to see mindless consumers bend over and easily accept all of Sony's bullshit without a second thought. It's because of the pushover consumers that Sony gets away with their bullshit and people like me are unable to play PS3 games.
This is exactly the problem that I have with Sony. It's the constant removal of features. The PS3 is a joke. At this rate it's going to be the laughing stock of the entire industry. I'm glad that jailbreak happened, it means I can bypass Sony's bullshit and use the system
I paid for on
my terms. I don't give a shit what a EULA says or whatever, I've said that plenty of times before, EULAs don't stand up in court. They aren't the be all and end all of how you should get to use your hardware. EULAs aren't above the law. If we don't voice our disgust at how Sony treats it's customers then they are simply going to keep abusing their power.
Regarding the 'you knew what you were getting into when you signed the EULA' yes, I knew that they reserve the right to change the service at any point. I didn't think that they would go as far as removing features from the system, features already factored into the purchase of the system. Inazuma brings a valid point, what happens to all those people who imported PS3s knowing that it was a region free system. That's a major selling point. Now what happens when they can't buy games for their system anymore? They're forced to seek alternate means of running games from another region. AKA Piracy. It's either that or give even more money blindly to Sony. If you are willing to do that then you really are a blind fanboy. I know there's not a cat in hell's chance of me buying
another Sony product ever again after this shit.
If you are willing to be complacent about consumer rights, then you deserve to be shafted by every company going, because they're out to make money. In
any way that they can. If that means fucking over every customer that walks them by then that's what they're going to do. Because the vast majority of people are just going to bend over, spread their cheeks and scream "more, please more". Well at least that's what Sony seems to be doing right now.
