Tales of Phantasia PS1 Translation Showing Massive Progress!

Post by Mozgus »

The newest update is looking great.

http://www.tales-cless.org/

I've been following the project for years, and before that I followed the DeJap translation of the SNES version for years. I was almost convinced that this PS1 translation was never going to come out but the last few updates have killed any doubt. God I can't wait. For those oblivious to the Tales series, I suggest you get Tales of Destiny 2 (Eternia in Japan) for PS1, as it's easily the peak. Most people prefer the modern 3D sequels that keep getting pumped out, but they just keep getting less and less original, feeling like copy/paste jobs anymore. Eternia actually feels like a solid jRPG with some real effort put into it.

Phantasia was a pretty good game, serving as the first in the series, but the PS1 remake is supposed to be much better. This translation will allow me to determine that. He expects it to be finished within a few months.

Cool.
More exciting for me is the Segagaga translation. I hope that's done soon.

I still look foward to it.

And yes, please try Destiny 2. It's so amazing. I beat it three times. None of the other Tales games held me long enough til the end, but Phantasia came close. I think the improved ps1 version will keep me in. Just don't get this confused with Destiny 2 in Japan. It's for PS2, not PS1, and it never came out here.

I never did get to play this game, bu I played a few in the Tales series.
I'm kinda board of RPGs at the moment (well have been for some time), and the copypaste jobs we have now, as you said. But if it's a good one without too much needless grind and stupid filler then perhaps I should check it out

Beta testing has begun. I'm still so hyped for this. I can't believe its almost here after all these years.
Update By: throughhim413

As of today, beta testing on Tales of Phantasia PSX has officially begun. It's been a while since our last update, so let me bring you up to speed on the newest stuff.

* Script Translation and Editing - 100%
* Skit Translation and Editing - 100%
* New Features: Selectable ability names (English vs. Romanized Japanese).
* Splash screen and anti-eBay/P2P screen.
* Complete Patcher made by Gemini specifically for this project. Patches the game in 2-5 minutes depending on your system.

So, there you have it. Most of this stuff has been done for several weeks. But there were internal alphas and some fixes to do, so nothing much that we could update people on. The two pictures here demonstrate the Ability Name Selector in action. This project is in its final stretch, we thank you for your ongoing support!

WE HAVE ALREADY SELECTED AND CONTACTED OUR BETA TESTERS, PLEASE DO NOT REQUEST TO BE A BETA TESTER!

The patch is out! The funny thing is that its no the patch I was talking about. While Phantasian Productions has not publicly released their patch yet, another couple of people have apparently been working on their own translation since August, and they someone completed in half a year, while Phantasian guys have spent many years. Very impressive. Anyways you guys can grab their patch here:

Absolute Zero deserves massive props for bringing a great revision of the first game in the Tales series to us English speaking types. I've given the game a try on my PS2 and I've experienced nothing less than a completely professional translation job. I haven't found any typos or any textual errors or even any slightly odd placements. It's all great. I'll definitely be trying out Phantasian's translation whenever it hits, just to compare.

At the very least, the text looks to be thicker and easier to read on the Phantasian version on the skits.

And here you can compare the menus in AZ's and PP's versions.

I think AZ's menu terminology is easier to understand, and I think they have made better positioning choices, especially for TVs that crop a lot off the right side like my TV is doing bad lately.
