I lol'd at the chart. And I'm only a little drunk. F'ing, Sonic the Hedgehog. Truly the highschool guidance counselor of all the 90's videogame mascots.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Sonic 1 and 2 HD 1080p doublepack NOW!

There's your "not crap Sonic" solution.

A decent port of Sonic Adventure would have been a pretty awesome "not crap sonic" solution. But no, Sega had to mess up the un-messupable.
I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes.

I would believe the producer of the game if he said something like the producer Shinji Mikami said (he'd cut off his own head before it went multi-platform or something like that), but not to that extent, maybe we'd believe him.
If the producer would have to eat a bucket full of cockroaches or take a cock-slap to the face, maybe he'd be accountable... if he was serious. But whatever, if it's good, I'll play it. If it sucks, at least I didn't believe nor get my hopes up.

Is this only in the UK like GoNintendo says?

Because there are still some Sonic games I want.

In retrospect, Sonic 2 wasn't all that polished either. It was like Sonic Adventure 2... bigger, faster, more awesome gimmicks... but incomplete and fairly glitchy.

I agree, that's why I think Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Knuckles was the best of the Genesis Sonic games.

I can't shake the feeling that they're trying too hard. Seriously, the whole thing about Sonic being the only playable character in Sonic 4. Um, nobody had a problem using Knuckles in Sonic & Knuckles, and Shadow was just fine in the Sonic Adventure games. It wasn't the extra characters that was the problem, it was the new gameplay elements and superfluous story elements that came with them. Duh. Those dipshits still don't quite get it(why don't game developers have brains?)

And pulling other Sonic games off the shelf. Um, why bother? Seriously. That's just utterly pointless

Sonic 4 is looking good though, and the first reviews in for the Wii version are good

Edit: Just to clarify my first paragraph, I don't think there is anything wrong with other playable characters as long the gameplay is still fast paced platforming. In Sonic & Knucles, the echidna had some cool new abilities but the gameplay was still about the speed and platforming. He just brought a new twist and that's was a good thing. I just find their total paranoia of using other characters now rather amusing.

Well, you have to consider that the main thing people bring up in every complaint about a modern Sonic game is the other characters, probably followed by Sonic being in 3D.

The problem is, extra characters (or 3-D gameplay) aren't the problem. Just like you've said, the issue is when they force the player away from the super-high-speed, just-run-and-jump experience players want from a Sonic game in the first place. I don't hear anyone complaining about the plethora of extra playable characters in the Sonic Advance games, so characters are definitely not the issue. Likewise, Sonic Adventure was in 3-D, and by almost all accounts it was a fantastic Sonic game, so non-2-D gameplay isn't the issue either. However, almost everyone I know or hear from hated having to play as Big the Cat, and more than a few disliked playing through as Knuckles. Why? They bought the game to RUN FAST. They don't appreciate being forced to stop and go fishing or play a game of Hot and Cold.

I don't think it's been entirely the developers' faults that the recent games have turned out the way they did. Sonic 2 (which Yuji Naka reputedly hated working on) and Sonic & Knuckles set the apparent rule that "new characters = more exciting, therefore more marketable." I wouldn't be surprised if corporate management put a lot of pressure on the developers to squeeze in more characters and more gimmicks. If it was something the developers wanted to do, it would probably have been done better. There is also a LONG history of Sonic games having a rushed production schedule and being released unfinished, which accounts for most of the other problems in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes, etc. Even the first Sonic Adventure didn't have the camera system working properly until the "International Version," which is what Europe and North America got. Japanese fans who wanted the corrected camera programming had to buy the game again.

The execs at Sega and Sammy need to understand the basic lesson that the game needs to be fast, and the development needs to take as long as is needed--never the other way around.
