Question regarding Gamestop preorders

Post by JC48573 »

So they don't let you cancel preorders because they already have the games on hold for you at some warehouse? What if I don't want the game when is released, will they refund me the money? I really don't care anymore as I've decided to make my purchases elsewhere from now on and this is all thanks to Cheapassgamer. The only good thing about Gamestop nowadays is their bonus items where I can simply sell them off online for some quick cash, which covers my tax at least. I was actually referring to Gran Turismo 5 Collector's Edition btw so I guess the release date is the real deal

You can cancel a preorder for a full refund at anytime and for any reason. If the sales associate says you can't, he's lying to you. Cancelling one does hurt that associates numbers so they don't like to but have to anyway.

I hate Gamestop because hating Gamestop is fun. Seriously, I want to try walking into a Gamestop with a black shirt with big, block, white letters saying "Gamestop Sucks" then casually buying games.

I'm sure some of the employees feel the same way.

Even though they say "Not For Resale", we all know that is a complete fabrication. I saw people selling the Monster Hunter Tri demos online and they were FREE if you walked in the store.

I think people are too hard on Gamestop. Yeah, they are a mega business - so you're going to penalize them for making money? That's what companies do. If they come up with a policy you don't like, don't give them money and vice versa.

I especially don't see the need to be dicks to Gamestop employees - they're just people, doing a job. They have no say over corporate or even store policy. At 9pm they take off the stupid looking shirts, go home, and have a beer like the rest of us.

If you don't like Gamestop, don't shop there. It's your choice, simple enough.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

This especially irks me when it happens. People shouldn't be such ass-hats to employees just doing there job.
I feel old when talking to anyone my age yet too inexperienced to effectively talk to anyone older. Life is grand that way.

Totally agree on not being a dick to other people. Gamestop employees are people too..

BUT:
1. Stop offering me preorders. Okay, I get it. You're not going to. But when I say no, it means no: I do not want to preorder anything.

AND

2. Stop saying: "What brings you in today?" What the fuck do you think brings me in today? Video games. If you want to talk to me, say "how's it going?" That would be a much better opener than "what can I sell you today?/we just want your money and to offer you things."

3. Game Informer is an advertisement controlled by publishers. It is not journalism; it is a marketing tool. I am glad people still want print magazines, but support something else like Game Pro, EGM, EDGE, Play or Retro Gamer. Magazines are dying and as retro enthusiasts we should support print media.

Why? Just because of an interest in retro games I should want to pay to get information about games months after the same information is available for free on the internet? Should I also only use dial up MODEMs to access computer bulletin boards? Should I campaign for my favorite music group to release their next album as an album instead of CD or digital download? Just in a cranky mood today, I have too much homework to do.

I agree. As long as said print media isn't just trash or one big advertising scheme.

I quit buying Nintendo Power a long time ago because they really have their priorities stuck on first party products. Yes, Nintendo is backing them but why should you mostly promote Nintendo and not the little game company that is making great games? I really have a problem giving a game a perfect 10/10 just because it has "Zelda" or "Mario" in the title. I'm still angry over the fact that they gave Geist on GameCube a 5/10.
