Nintendo Game and Watch

Post by shwisha »

I was researching the Nintendo Game and Watches because I had a flashback to 1st grade and I remembered a few friend had them. I was thinking about picking one up off ebay. Does anyone else own any of these and if so which ones do you suggest?

I haven't owned any, but if you really want to play all the games without buying each expensive one and don't want to worry about breaking them, consider getting the Game and Watch Gallery series for GB-GBA.

But, if you want them for collecting and nostalgic purposes that's different.

They run you up quite a bill, very fast.

If you see one without a battery cap, an think I can just replace it, I have seen battery caps fetch $30-$60. It is a very expensive hobbie.

I used to own three. Bomb Sweeper, Donkey Kong II, and the Mario Bros. "Brick" one that opened like a book. All three were really fun. Especially because the Nintendo Game Boy hadn't come out yet.

I certainly had the most fun with Bomb Sweeper but can remember putting hours into the others as well. I always wanted the Zelda one but never got it. Sold all three - complete - for a hefty sum 2 years ago.

I'd recommend you try and get the Game and Watch Collection for DS. Probably way cheaper unless you need to chase the originals.

Although I'm sure you've already checked the Wiki list of Game and Watch, here it is:

I own a Donkey Kong Game and Watch unit it's pretty cool. I got it for cheap at a flea market a few years ago. They are pretty expensive to collect for especially on eBay and I would recommend going after Game and Watch collection on DS as a cheaper altenative if you just want to play the games. :)

Thanks, I've been watching prices on ebay the past few days and you guys are right, they are a bit pricey. I think I'll just hold off on this / keep and eye out when I go to thrift stores.

I used to own the Mario Bros. one when i was little. I remember also owning the mini-clip ones shaped like a Game Boy. There's a lot to choose from, i personally suggest Ball, Manhole, Bombsweeper, and Octopus. These things are pretty pricey online, usually running $200-$300 a piece. You should try out the Game & Watch Collections on the GameBoy systems.

I didn't realize they were going for so much. I must have at my parents' home a Donkey Kong Circus one. I'll see if I find it.

I had another one that I am not sure if it is Nintendo - it was sort of a Breakout game, you controlled a weird character with a mouth looking like a horn turned up, you pressed the button and it blew air and thus sent the ball up again. The unit itself was metallic silvery. The "fire" button on this one was great.

I had the Donkey Kong one around 8 years ago if not more. I got it from a thrift store for $2 or so. They aren't even fun to play and cost alot of money on Ebay. It's not worth it.
