I'm surprised this site even has metalheads. I just got lucky...

They just released a new album with old cartoon themes. For those of you who don't know, their previous two albums were video game covers.

You know, I went and checked them out after reading this post, and I think they're great. Niche, but awesome.

I've listened to all those songs you mentioned, but they just won't stick to my head. I think it must be Araya's super annoying vocals and Kerry King's filler guitar solos that seriously put me off.

I just don't get how an album like "Reign in Blood" can get so much praise from the metal community, when we have even greater albums like "Darkness Descends" and "Eternal Nightmare" to mosh to.

Probably because Slayer already had an established legacy before Reign In Blood and Darkness Descends in all likelihood wouldn't have ever happened without Slayer's influence (Gene Hoglan started learning double bass because of Dave Lombardo). RiB is an important album, like it or not.

That is true. I never denied the Slayer influence on Dark Angel, even though Dark Angel originally formed in 1981 as Shellshock, and Slayer formed the year after that. Gene Hoglan started developing his double bass techniques because he used to do the lights for Slayer as part of their road crew, prior to joining the ranks of Dark Angel.

Still, why can't Slayer be more known for either of their first two LPs instead of "Reign in Blood"? As far as "Darkness Descends" is concerned when compared to "Reign in Blood," I think "Darkness Descends" is "Reign in Blood" with better guitar solos and less irritable vocals. However, I prefer "Leave Scars" and "Time Does Not Heal," thanks to the interesting concept of tackling with REAL issues like child abuse on both albums. Listen to the song 'The Death of Innocence' and your jaw will drop! :D

Am I the only one who thinks most power metal bands of today sound very fruity? I think I'd rather stick to bands like Cloven Hoof and Pretty Maids...

I like Grave Digger, Kamelot, Jag Panzer, Ayreon, Iced Earth. They're all power metal or somewhat power metal I think

Never could get into Blind Guardian for some reason. The band just doesn't work for me. Odd, since I always hear people say that Iced Earth fans will love Blind Guardian. I did enjoy hearing their vocalist on Ayreon's 01011001 album though. Lot of great vocalists on that one like Jonas Renkse and Anneke van Giersbergen

Also, though I'm not sure what category they fit in, I liked Leaves' Eyes Vinland Saga album(goth metal maybe?). I love metal, but don't consider myself an expert on its subgenres. Anyway, I love that sexy siren Liv Kristine. She did some nice work with Cradle of Filth on Nymphetamine
