I never, ever thought Sony would sink so low as to directly target their consumers. I mean, this has to be breaking some privacy law; no other company goes to such great lengths to fight hacking. this isn't even funny anymore; now it's scary. Know one knows what this wounded dog will do next.Niode wrote:News just in:

Sony now think they are better than the Streisand effect. Yeah... Good luck with that one Sony, you're gonna need it.

Is this different than what MS does to mod chip makers, Nintendo does to R4 sellers, etc?
Re: Sony removing OtherOS feature in 3.21 PS3 update
I don't even know why they're trying. They can't stop the information from being spread, all they're doing is wasting money on court costs and giving themselves a bad name. This sort of crap and all their ridiculous marketing rhetoric is why I really dislike Sony's game division.lisalover1 wrote:I never, ever thought Sony would sink so low as to directly target their consumers. T0yrobo summed it up. It's not that they're banning the sales of the 'modchip', they've already done this. They're trying to suppress the information on how the exploit/hack works. That's the problem.dsheinem wrote:Is this different than what MS does to mod chip makers, Nintendo does to R4 sellers, etc?

Thank you for bringing up Lik-Sang. I still haven't forgiven Sony for that. My boycott started then and I have never given Sony money since.AppleQueso wrote:Well I just see it as karma biting them in the ass for what they did to Lik-Sang (and to a lesser extent, Bleem)

My favorite import seller until Sony shut them down. Finally looked up why, for selling import PSPs to Europe buyers. Geeze what is wrong with that? Is this why as a U.S. buyer, I can't buy a PAL game from Amazon?! I thought Windows stranglehold control of PC was bad. PS3 3rd party hardware pretty much going dead due to concern of future updates. Sony control monopoly of what consumer can buy is really setting a bad precedence.benderx wrote:Isn't Lik-Sang similar to play asia.Inazuma wrote:Thank you for bringing up Lik-Sang. ethically nothing at all.
legally? not much as well.
commercially? The governments not getting their tax money from the sale, and sony not selling overpriced games to the EU market (due to currency difference)
I don't know on what legal grounds they closed them though. Perhaps they sold mod chips as well?

They closed them down because they accused them of selling AC adaptors that weren't rated for Europe. Despite selling them with step down converters (when needed). Or with the actual CE rated 100-240V AC adaptor. Sony flat out lied about what Lik-sang were doing and got them shut down for it.ZeroAX wrote:CRTGAMER wrote:or selling import PSPs to Europe buyers. Regarding tax, all stuff imported into the EU is subject to import duty. Whether it gets put on or not is a different matter all together. So the government are getting their tax one way or another.
Just as relevant today as it was 4 years ago... Well apart from them being industry leader... Coincidence?Pascal Clarysse, formerly known as the Marketing Manager of Lik-Sang.com wrote:Blame it on Sony. That's the latest dark spot in their shameful track record as gaming industry leader. The Empire finally 'won', few dominating retailers from the UK probably will rejoice the news, but everybody else in the gaming world lost something today.
Sony, Butt-fucking their own customers since 2006.
