Question about Genesis carts/save batteries
I was just wondering, if I were to buy an RPG like Phantasy Star IV or something, and the save battery is dead, how on earth am I going to go about replacing the battery without screwing up the end label? I noticed there's a screw hole under the end labels...perfect place to put them eh?

Re: Question about Genesis carts/save batteries
On the back of the cart are two security bits, unscrew them.
You will see a battery on PCB, replace it (Think you have to unsolder from the reversed end).
Job Done.

Is there not a security bit under the end label though? It looks/feels like it.

No, I have never removed a label but I imagine it is just part of the plastic mold.

Hm, I see..I just now took a closer look and the crease (where the cartridge opens) isn't actually under the end label so I'm fine. Thanks for the quick response though.
So, the battery has to be..resoldered?

Yes as it is hardwired, ie, not on a clip.WrathOskvro wrote:Hm, I see..I just now took a closer look and the crease (where the cartridge opens) isn't actually under the end label so I'm fine. Thanks for the quick response though.

When they made carts they were not thinking about people who would play the games 15+ years after production.
The only company that I am aware of that didnt use batteries for saves was EA.

Interesting. Looks like I better stock up on some batteries then, because I plan on getting a fairly big collection eventually. Next game on my to-buy list is Landstalker.

Re: Question about Genesis carts/save batteries
I've not replaced a cartridge battery yet, but i've seen a how to guide, and it seems like a very easy job. But using a soldering iron on or near a battery is dangerous. Just make sure you know what your doing.
