I want what ever i'm painting for you to blow your mind when you get it and unwrap it. i've looked into vinyl dyes alot too, and that seems to be preferred. i'd also like to throw on some custom art (8-bit themes(mega man, mario, yoshi, kirby, etc.)) color coordinated with no tow consoles alike, so it would truly be custom.

P.S. yes, i would also de-yellow a console for anyone who didn't want to do it themselves.
Vinyl dyes are real real tricky to use.

You can't hold or spin the object in your hands like you normally would as it's extremely runny and 100% un-removable once it's on there so you have to paint it as it sits on a platform.

Also, sanding down plastic surfaces before painting is some of the worst advice I've ever heard. It's usually spread around by people who are used to painting wood and other stuff and does NOT work with plastic as you will only end up removing the textured surface and destroying the case. You should use a soft and moistened rag plus toothbrush, pipe cleaners etc... to wipe off any and all dirt you can find before painting. That way it looks like it just came off the production line when the end customer gets it.

goo to know about not sanding. i do plan on taking everything apart leaving just the casing and running it thru the dishwasher first to make sure it's real clean, then mask off what needs to be masked, off to the spray booth it goes! (after i build one of course)

Almost forgot.
Use Goo Gone. Works with everything sticky (stickers, tree sap, etc.). That stuff could take cement off of the sidewalk.

Both good and bad advice.

Goo gone works wonders, but only if you barely use half a drop. Any more and you'll end up wearing away the finish of the case and giving it a sweaty controller look. This is because goo gone is a mix of acid and polish. It works, just be careful.

Be sure to remove any tiny springs from buttons, CD/drive doors, memory card doors, cartridge port caps etc...!

Yeah, you should only use it as a last resort if regular cleaning doesn't work.

These are good tips! Only spray painting i've done is profanity on the overpass, but i'm also thinking of customizing some model 1 Genesis's I picked up for parts and to S-video mod. If I do a bang up job i'd sure part with it for the right price.

I think in regards to how much you should charge or what folks are willing to pay depends on the quality of your finished product. I would do alot of research and practice, getting the basics and technique down before you commit to a for sale project, which should really make someone say "Wow! Thats cool!" if you want to have any chance of profiting from it. Hope to see pics!

....maybe. Maybe there is a market for it, maybe not. Regardless, you never know until you try. And, perhaps, the skills you develop, the portfolio you build, will help land other work of a similar nature.
