As the title says just a suggestion. Why don't you put an IRC channel racket? :D

Not a bad idea, there is a firefox plugin for IRC chat so it would be quite simple to chat with the forum people.

I would much rather prefer a flash based IRC chat for the site. If such a thing exists, that is. I dont want to install java.

The java applet for IRC is a bit intruisive... I personally don't like it, and I know a LOT of other people don't like it either. It's also really slow and annoying.

There are flash protocols for IRC chat. I've never used them personally and they somewhat new. Several different people make them now though, some cost money, others don't. I can look into it further if anyone is really that interested... but if it's just for 3 or 4 cats on the site I don't see wasting my time on it.

Ask racket, getting me to do stuff takes time, I have tons of other shit on my plate with much higher priority.

I think it would be quite active as long it was accessable off the main page. Remember that the site gets many many many more visitors that don't use the forums compared to those that do. And as long as it was easy enough for them to log in with a click or two, it should always be active.

From what I've seen it's a basic log in screen... with a space for nick and password, just like any other IRC channel... the channel and everything are defaulted by the person who sets it up (i.e. Racketboy)

When I get some free time I'll look for a free one, find people using it already. Maybe contact some friends who are into this kinda stuff and know a bit more about it (Dak comes to mind).

If people are looking for sega related channels in irc there is always #sega #smspower #segaxtreme #dreamcast #dc-chat on efnet irc servers.

Are two examples.

Cant really remember anymore(last used it a few years ago), but a php irc chat is crap right?
I think i recal massive respond times...
