My plasma is ED not HD, but s-video looks great on it too. The only things that sometimes look funky are 'flicker' type shadow and fake transparency effects on some older consoles.

I think this has some merit. The best possible connection that forces a 480i and below resolution. Maybe the upscaler in the HD adjusts better with the 480i input?

Huh? What? That doesn't even make sense. Any console before the Dreamcast will output 480i at a maximum. ALL consoles output at 480i and below regardless of what connection you are using.

Well that being said, I've played my NES on that TV a few times (composite) and it also looked pretty damn good. But I also put my TV in 4:3 mode when playing/watching something in that aspect ratio. Stretching a 4:3 image to 16:9 always looks bad.

I've just switched from using an RGB cable to an S-Video cable. Although the image is less sharp (some ghosting), the colors are much better.
