360 Dilemma - Advice?

Post by bladerunner »

So I want to upgrade to the new 360 slim as my current Elite is starting to RROD (it has already once but is working now). I really want a slim. But I do have some warranty left. So, should I get the Elite fixed, or should I trade her in for a slim?

If I do trade her in for a slim, I want to get my saved data off the HDD and onto the shiny new 250GB drive on the slim. But if I trade this system in first, I wont be able to do that, and obviously Gamestop won't apply a trade retroactively. I am pretty sure you can now use regular USB flash drives as memory cards on the 360, so I could back up my saved games onyl, and then just re-download XBLA games, DLC, armor/maps/outfits etc. and a few videos I got awhile back. What do you guys think?

PS - Don't tell me to get a PS3. I want one, but I am saving some clams for one.

You won't get much for that 360.

If you can get it fixed for free still, do that. There's no reason to shell out more for a slim if your original will still be working after a fix. You will just have to go for a week or two without it. Replace it when it breaks and can't be fixed for free.

What would the trade in value be a Gamestop do you think?

Why would you bring them a dying 360 to trade in? So someone else can take it home and get stuck with the RROD? Seems like a douchebag thing to do...

I was under the impression that Gamestop would replace this system, though that is perhaps if it RRODs quickly. The douchebag thing would be to sell it to someone personally, without any type of warranty or guarantee. Or to be a huge megacompany and continually sell a crappy product, and then charge customers to have it fixed, and never once issue an apology, or even attempt to fix it (as I hear that even the new slims are somewhat prone to overheating as well).

No sir, in all of this, M$ is the douchebag.

You are all probably right. I will send it off to get fixed. So instead of Halo Reach I shall be playing a combo of Guardian Heroes, Urban Strike, The Last Express (PC) and my new copy of Final Fight CD.

If you really want the slim, send it off to be fixed and then trade it in.

You could transfer all of your content to a usb drive and that would allow you to trade in the hard drive at the same time.

Then when you get the new system, just transfer it all over via the usb drive.

Remember you can redownload all your xbox live arcade games and things like that.
