I have to say, I'm pretty darn impressed by what they've been able to squeeze out of the Nintendo DS. Supposedly its a little less powerful than a Nintendo 64 - The graphics would have you believe otherwise.
I'm looking forward to playing this game when it's released!
I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes.

The link says it's PS3 and not DS footage...
Or did I misunderstand what you wrote?

Originally, this game was not announced for the PS3, but for the DS.
However, this footage seems to be of the just announced PS3 version of the same title. I think that's what's causing the misunderstanding.

Ah, shit. My bad. Haha I can't believe I didn't figure that out!

So I've been reading some reviews for this. It doesn't sound good at all. Basically, it's an old school, grind fest, something that I feel the genre should have moved on from by now. You will need HOURS of leveling for every boss fight in the game or even just to survive getting through a certain part of the map. Honestly, it sounds like the game is only getting high scores from people because of the Studio Ghibli involvement. Of course, no one is going to come right out and say that because we live in a world that is full of BS.
Pass.

Can't say I'm too excited about this. I never cared for the Studio Ghibli art style and there are so many other JRPGs out there that appeal to me more.

Ouch. Kudos to them, that sounds like an honest review.
I'm surprised at the approach taken with this game, as Jeanne D'arc was accessible and fun. It was a nice alternative to the grindfest that was games like Disgaea or Final Fantasy Tactics. It seems they've taken a more oldschool approach with Ni No Kuni. I'm disappointed, as I'm sort of tired of grindy rpgs. It's one thing I like about recent Final Fantasty games, despite all the flack that they get. They are not grindy. You simply learn how combat works and then kick ass, regardless of stats or levels. The numbers only start to matter when you take on optional, super tough enemies

Why don't you play it first. Just a thought.
I am intrigued and repelled by this game. I did play it for about a half an hour at E3 and found it a tiresome bore, but the game LOOKS so pretty and like it has tons of aesthetic polish that begs further exploration. The question for me: is the gameplay fun enough and/or the story interesting enough to motivate me to see all that there is in the game? So far the answer seems to be "no" but I am waiting to hear what more folks around here think...
The closest comparison I keep drawing is Eternal Sonata. I love Chopin, games with a wink to history, and the visuals in that game. But I just could not enjoy the game itself...
