I'd happily accept either of those (or both) as a compromise. As long as the people/creatures we are helping are not to blame for their own situations, I and my wallet are ready to get started.

both of the cats my girlfriend and I own are rescued strays.

While taking in your stray girlfriend is commendable, I'm not so sure about 'owning' her.

what about Goodwill.

On a related note, the dining table and chairs I had at college came from Goodwill in great shape. They went right back to the same Goodwill for another round when I moved back.

So far most suggestions seem worthy to me. I doubt I'm gonna have anything super cool like the Rock Band stuff this time, but we'll see what I've got.

That rock band stuff gets used all the time, btw. . It's definitely teaching my son some good rhythm skills.

Did you guys hear of Brian Wood? He was a game developer for Relic I think, worked on Company of Heroes. He sacrificed himself in a car accident to save his Pregnant wife. They have a Memorial Trust fund to help out the wife and her soon to be child.

Just skimming this thread it seems that a lot of the charity suggestions have been for US-centric charities. Any chance of a charity that isn't specific to one country?

Donations to research really isn't US-centric.

That said, the US is also the melting pot of the world, so it would be like we're donating to everyone.

We could also just make a pile of cash and hire Dog the bounty hunter to find Bin Laden. I bet some cable network would be down.

I'm not against donating to research charities. I've been donating to Cancer Research for years. Having lost my step dad to cancer last year it's a charity close to my heart. I just don't agree with donating to something like the ASPCA likewise I wouldn't suggest you guys donating to the RSPCA.

Research charities I can get fully behind because that benefits the planet as a whole.
