Best Versions of Multiplatform Games

Post by (-_-) »

I couldn't find a topic for this in the search, so redirect me if I missed it. Recently I picked up a copy of Psychonauts for xbox and I was going to give it to someone to give to someone else as a gift. However, when I got home I tried it to see if it was better than my ps2 version. It appeared to run smoother so I looked it up and the xbox one is the better version (so now I'm going to keep it as I had to trek through the rain, lost, trying to find the guy who was selling it). Now that I have a ps2, xbox, and gamecube I would rather get the best version of multiplatform games instead of defaulting to ps2. Is there any website that compiles differences between multiplatform games? Or are there good sites to look at for this? Just curious.

In general xbox had the best multi platform games. Unless it was something made for Gamecube then ported, the controls are usually funky on those besides any graphical issues (ex. RE4).
A lot of the multiplatform games I've played are only slightly better on xbox though. The biggest difference I can think of is the loading times tend to be much shorter compared to PS2.
I haven't heard of a site that keeps track of that stuff, it'd be nice with how close the current gen is on multiplat games.

I know the xbox is generally the better version, but it's not always the case. I looked up Aeon Flux which I'm enjoying on the ps2. I think it's a great game but there are some quality issues with it and I wondered if the xbox one at least ran smoother. According to google searches it suffers from a lot more problems. I was just wondering if anyone was aware if there is list of this sort of thing somewhere partially because I'm too lazy to look up each game individually and scour different forums and because I'm just interested to see how versions stack up against eachother. Or at least some sort of effort or project in the works to make something along the lines of this site

I'm also wondering if there is a list compiling differences between games from different regions as well.

I can tell you one thing. Every multi-platform FPS game that I've ever played on the Xbox looks a lot sharper graphically and runs at a much steadier framerate than its PS2 counterpart.

I could probably say the same about most of the sports games, too

I had and still have all thee systems. Insteadof the PS2, you should default to the Xbox for 99% of last gen multi-platform games. In almost all cases, Xbox versions look better, have fewer performance issues, and if you have a modded system, you can install them to the harddrive to cut load times in half and have the ability to run trainers.

The PS2 versions usually play the same, but look much worse and preform worse. Gamecube versions would look roughly on par with Xbox, but releases would often be missing entire options such as multiplayer and almost always any bonus content like interviews and such due to the limited storage capacity of those mini-dvds.

Here's my mini list of mutliplatform games I know of and their differences.

Megaman Anniversary Collection

PS2
-Outputs the lowest resolution of the three
-Has correct controls, remixed music, slow load times
-Has the first episode of the 1993 American Megaman cartoon

Gamecube:
-backwards controls B = jump A = fire
-No remixed music whatsoever
-G4 Icons History of Megaman extra video

Xbox:
- Configurable controls
-Odd graphical defects in the text displayed in-game for the NES games. Not very critical, but it's there.
-Megaman 8 has major problems playing on an Xbox 360.
-Has the first episode of the Rockman.EXE english dub for some reason

Fatal Frame

Xbox version has more unlockable constumes, more ghosts, better visuals and faster load times.

Metal of Honor Rising Sun

PS2: - Slow load times, buggy

Gamecube: On two mini-discs, yet still stripped of its extras

Xbox: Better framerate, all the extras, still looks like a PS2 game.

There are others, but I can't think of any at the moment.
